English Teaching Role in a Large Comprehensive School

A comprehensive secondary school in Lincoln is seeking to appoint an English Teacher to join its established English department from September. This is a full-time teaching role within a school that supports a broad and inclusive curriculum designed to meet the needs of students across a wide range of abilities.

English is a core subject within the school and the department works collaboratively to support literacy development and academic progress across all year groups.

About the Role

You will teach English across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 delivering lessons that develop reading writing speaking and analytical skills. Students will study a range of texts including modern literature classic works poetry and non-fiction materials.

You will support students preparing for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations helping them develop effective written responses and confident interpretation of texts.

Depending on experience there may be opportunities to teach English at Key Stage 5.

You will work alongside colleagues within the department to support shared planning and consistent assessment practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English across KS3 and KS4

• Deliver lessons covering literature and language topics

• Prepare students for GCSE English Language and Literature examinations

• Assess student work and provide structured feedback

• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records

• Contribute to departmental planning and shared resources

• Promote high standards of literacy and communication

• Support intervention sessions where required

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 effectively

• Good classroom management skills

• Strong organisational and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching KS5 English

• Experience preparing students for GCSE examinations
