About the Role:
Our client is an international mining company focused on developing gold assets in Australia. They are seeking a highly experienced General Manager to lead the end-to-end development and construction of mining operations from early-stage planning through to production readiness.
This role is best suited to a hands-on builder profile with strong experience in mine construction plant development and project execution rather than purely operating existing mines. The successful candidate will also play a key role in ensuring regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Mine Development & Construction
Lead the development and construction of underground and open-pit mining operations
Oversee plant construction infrastructure development and commissioning activities
Drive project delivery from feasibility through to production
Ensure projects are delivered on time within budget and to required standards
Engineering & Technical Oversight
Provide hands-on leadership across mine design planning and execution
Review technical studies mine plans and development strategies
Ensure alignment between mining operations and processing facilities
Project Management & Execution
Establish and manage project timelines budgets and KPIs
Implement strong project controls reporting systems and governance frameworks
Manage contractors engineering firms and project teams
Identify and mitigate project risks
Regulatory Compliance & Stakeholder Management
Ensure compliance with local mining environmental and safety regulations
Engage with government authorities and regulatory bodies
Support permitting processes and maintain approvals
Build relationships with local stakeholders and partners
Leadership & Team Management
Build and lead multidisciplinary project and operational teams
Foster a high-performance accountable and safety-driven culture
Develop internal capabilities to support transition into operations
Health Safety & Environment (HSE)
Promote and enforce strong HSE standards across all project activities
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations
Conduct regular reviews audits and continuous improvement initiatives
Financial & Commercial Management
Develop and manage capital and operating budgets
Monitor project costs and ensure financial discipline
Support efficient and commercially viable project delivery
Requirements:
Minimum 1015 years experience in mining with strong focus on mine development and construction
Proven experience in building underground and/or open-pit mines
Background with engineering EPC or EPCM firms is highly preferred
Strong project management experience delivering mine plant construction projects
Solid understanding of regulatory compliance and permitting processes
Demonstrated leadership experience in complex site-based environments
Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
