Job Summary

  • Maintain detailed documentation of the Citys IT infrastructure. This includes network diagrams showing device locations and connections configuration records (IP addresses VLANs firewall rules etc.) server inventories with roles and configurations and admin credentials stored securely. Update documents promptly when changes are made. All such documentation is made available to City personnel upon request.
  • Provide day-to-day administration of the Citys networks (LAN/WAN). Monitor network performance and proactively address issues to ensure reliable connectivity for all City locations. Manage network equipment (firewalls routers switches wireless access points) including applying firmware updates managing configurations and optimizing for security and performance. Regularly review the network to confirm it is operating at peak efficiency and capacity.
  • Provide day-to-day server and IT infrastructure systems support which includes but is not limited to maintenance repairs minor updates security and enterprise system implementation and support.
  • Manage the Citys data storage systems and perform regular data backups. This includes maintaining file servers NAS/SAN devices and cloud storage allocations so that staff have reliable access to shared files. Monitor storage capacity and performance and plan for expansions or archiving as needed. Perform daily backups of all critical systems and databases (on-site and to off-site or cloud locations). Verify backup jobs succeed and conduct periodic test restorations to ensure data can be recovered. Maintain backup logs and remediate any failed backups immediately.
  • Oversee the Citys internet connections (ISP services) and act as liaison to the ISP for any outages or bandwidth issues. Ensure the Citys voice/data network is integrated with the IT network and coordinate with telecom vendors for support.
  • Develop and maintain the Citys IT disaster recovery mechanisms. Provide off-site file backup and disaster recovery solutions so that critical data and services can be restored after a major incident. Implement failover procedures for key systems. Draft and periodically update a Disaster Recovery Plan detailing steps to rebuild or failover City IT systems in various disaster scenarios. Conduct an annual disaster recovery test or simulated failover to validate the Citys preparedness.
  • Manage the Citys wireless networks and remote access systems. Configure and monitor secure Wi-Fi networks at City facilities ensuring adequate coverage and performance for staff and public (if offered). Ensure that remote connectivity is stable and uses strong encryption/MFA as per security policies.
  • Support the Citys use of cloud-based solutions. This may include administration of Microsoft 365 tenant services (Exchange Online SharePoint/OneDrive Teams) managing licenses user accounts and security settings.
  • Administer the Citys email and collaboration systems. This may involve creating mailboxes distribution lists archives ensuring spam filtering and malware protection is active and providing user support for email-related issues.
  • Back-end email system tasks like retention policies e-discovery searches and mailbox backups. If applicable manage other messaging platforms (i.e. Teams Slack) and ensure they integrate with City authentication.
  • Proactive patching and timely firmware upgrades of infrastructure hardware.
  • Manage the Citys telecommunications infrastructure in coordination with telecom vendors. For example administration of a VoIP phone system adding new phones updating phone directory routes and troubleshooting network-related call quality issues.
  • Routine documented and auditable testing of data restoration from server and endpoint backups (e.g. staggered quarterly test restores).
  • Administer backup and recovery solution for Microsoft 365 services including but not limited to Exchange Online SharePoint OneDrive Teams.
