Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Neuro Diagnostics Specialist provides respiratory care to patients of all ages primarily focusing on adults in the ICU ER M/S and PEDS units. This role involves administering medications managing ventilators performing diagnostic tests and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The specialist must be proficient in various respiratory therapies and equipment and able to work independently or with a team.

Responsibilities:

- Administer respiratory medications via invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
- Manage and troubleshoot various types of ventilators (Servo I LTV Hamilton T1 preferred).
- Perform endotracheal intubation and extubation.
- Conduct airway management including nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning.
- Provide pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection.
- Perform tracheostomy care and suctioning.
- Set up and manage aerosol masks T-pieces and trach collars.
- Manage High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) BiPAP and CPAP.
- Troubleshoot high-pressure alarms on ventilators.
- Wean patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Interpret Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs).
- Perform occasional EKGs to support the Cardiology Department.
- Provide care to COVID-19 patients as needed.
- Document patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Stabilize newborns prior to transport if required.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- Minimum 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy.
- ACLS BLS CRT NRP certifications.
- Valid NY state license.
- Proficiency in Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department procedures.
- Skills in Extubation Nasal/Oral Airway Placement/Suctioning Pulmonary Hygiene Sputum Collection and Tracheostomy Care.
- Knowledge of medications such as Albuterol Atrovent Combivent Flovent Isuprel Lidocaine Perforomist Pulmicort Racemic Epinephrine Spiriva Terbutaline Sulfate Tobramycin and Xopenex.
- Experience with Aerosol setups Medihalers Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI) T-pieces Trach collars High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) BiPAP and CPAP.
- Ability to interpret Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs).
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Experience with Servo I LTV and Hamilton T1 ventilators.
Special Considerations:

- Must be able to work alone and adapt to a changing care climate.
- May be required to provide care to COVID-19 populations.
- Must be comfortable with all ages as they may be responsible for newborn (Stabilization prior to transport) and pediatric care.
