Under general supervision this position performs responsible and professional work by planning developing and implementing project efforts that utilize solutions for one or more small- to medium-sized or moderately complex projects. This position serves as liaison with contractors consultants and departments.


Job Description:

Duties Functions and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and functions pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Manages and coordinates projects and activities between members of the management team various departments public agencies and/or private sector representatives.
  • Develops methods procedures and quality objectives including metrics for assessing progress; and utilizes established project standards procedures and quality objectives.
  • Develops detailed project plans and schedules monitors progress analyzes information and reports and revises the schedule as necessary.
  • Assists or leads as necessary in the management of the selection process and administers consultant services including negotiating contract terms and fees approving the consultants product approving payment to consultant initiating poor performance remedies etc.
  • Conducts project kickoff meetings communicates roles and project expectations and ensures project team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively.
  • Provides work direction and leadership to assigned projects including scheduling assignment of work and review of project efforts.
  • Monitors project milestones and critical dates to identify potential risk to project schedule; identifies ways to resolve schedule issues; keeps management current on any changes.
  • Manages monitors and reviews contracts and contractors to ensure compliance with contractual obligations including administering change orders and estimates.
  • Assesses variances from the project plans; gathers metrics and develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within specified scope and is within time cost and quality objectives.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to City management field personnel contractors etc.

Must possess required knowledge skills abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of laws rules regulations and codes associated with project assignment.
  • Knowledge of project accounting and the principles/practices of project management.
  • Knowledge of design principles practices and procedures; and estimating techniques.

  • Skill in completing projects within the required scheduling and the ability to make prompt decisions and develop new and relative ideas for providing a quality product and quality customer service with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to perform all facets of projects with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to plan execute and control a project (establishing realistic estimates and reporting metrics).
  • Ability to assess and analyze project risks and exposures; identify options and alternatives make decisions and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment tact and diplomacy in all public contacts.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and difficult situations.
  • Ability to communicate in oral or written format to a variety of audiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation with a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or major coursework in project management plus four (4) years of related work experience;

OR

  • Graduation with an associate degree from an accredited college or university plus six (6) years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The preferred candidate will have subject matter expertise technical skills and experience leading projects to earn LEED certification and/or Austin Energy Green Building ratings.
  • Licenses/Certifications preferred: LEED Accredited Professional for Building Design and Construction also of interest: ENVSP CEM PMP WELL AP TRUE Advisor or SITES AP
  • Experience reading and developing building plans and specifications and navigating complex active construction sites.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing short and long term strategic plans and initiatives for sustainability and green building.
  • Experience operating and maintaining green buildings or energy systems post construction to maximize occupant satisfaction while reducing overall resource consumption.
  • Ability to travel to various work locations.
  • Ability to pass a TSA background check.


Notes to Candidate:

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has engaged in a partnership with Austin Energy Green Building to support green building in new construction and operations at the airport. AUS has initiated their roughly $4.5 billion Airport Expansion and Development Program (AEDP) to take place in multiple phases through 2031. The purpose of this position is to assist AUS project managers design/construction teams planners and operators with implementing and documenting green building / sustainability initiatives. The position will work with the current AEGB Project Manager assigned to ongoing green building work at AUS.

This position has been designated as aCritical Employeeposition. Critical Employees are considered necessary and vital and supports activities that impact City or department operations. This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.

Location: 4815 Mueller Blvd. Austin TX 78723 and Austin Bergstrom International Airport 3600 Presidential Blvd. Austin TX 78719.

Work Schedule/Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Salary Range: $36.50 per hour (low) to $46.36 per hour (mid)
