The Service & Team

The Archives and Cornish Studies Service is the local authority archive for 2019 the service moved to the Kresen Kernow building in Redruth home to over 1.5 million archives and books. We welcome thousands of residents and visitors each year to discover learn and take part and many more connect with our collections services and events online.

In addition to acquiring records in accordance with our statutory role we collect archive material relating to a diverse range of individuals communities organisations and events to ensure that information on the history and life of Cornwall is recorded preserved and made accessible. Through our library collection we provide a central repository for material concerning Cornwall and the Cornish including printed books pamphlets journals newspapers photographs and audio-visual material.

Our aim is to make the collections available to all and through care and preservation to ensure their continuing availability for years to come.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in developing and supporting the systems and workflows that are essential to service delivery. You will work with collection management systems digitisation workflows websites and APIs collaborating with colleagues and contractors to ensure service continuity and data quality.

The main activities of the role will be to:

  • Manage and develop the digital collections system and digital workflows that support daily service delivery.

  • Support the digital infrastructure and standards behind the online catalogues and image browser.

  • Lead on the implementation and development of a new collections management system.

  • Support staff and volunteers to develop their skills and confidence.

  • Make informed decisions that support digital sustainability ensuring systems are secure resilient and environmentally responsible.

Working Pattern:

This is a part-time position 22.2 hours per week.

What youll need to succeed:

You will bring experience of digital collections management systems within an archive library or heritage setting alongside data management skills and a commitment to improving access to collections. Youll be confident working collaboratively and leading on digital change and sustainability. The ability to understand the needs of stakeholders and audiences is essential as well as experience of training and supporting colleagues and volunteers to develop their digital skills.
