Job Description:

Accountabilities:

  • Accepting sorting and properly storing food donations using Safe Food Handling Guidelines and Health & Safety Protocols. Certification for both will be provided.

  • Administrative work including answering phone/returning voicemail interviewing/registering new clients in person and over phone creating appointments completing Food Banks Canada (Link2Feed) data base entries for clients served creating statistical spreadsheets (excel) creating posters/signs (word/other).

  • Working with volunteers in their support roles and lending leadership to the team when necessary.

  • The incumbent would warmly greet clients in person and help them to select the products wanted from what is available.

  • Working within fair share food guidelines one must be able to help guide clients with quantities of foods based on number of people in the household. This guide can change based on available products in each category and you must be able to adapt to daily change.

  • Setting up and tearing down the food distribution space bringing items from fridges freezers and warehouse spaces. This includes cleaning and disinfecting work areas counters tables etc. before and after the food bank.

  • Dealing with garbage & recycling daily

Health and Safety

  • Adherence to all health and safety standards.

  • Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in organization appearance maintenance cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform other position related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a Temporary Fixed Term Contract Job based on 35 hours per week.

  • Ability to lift/move more than 10 lbs. (4.5kg).

  • This job requires reaching bending and stooping frequently working in a standing position for extended periods of time.

  • The working environment is in generally agreeable conditions.

  • Must be available for the full 8-week position.

Normal hours of work Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.

  • Working environment is in a day camp setting both indoor and outdoor in generally agreeable conditions with the following exceptions exposure to tantrums and noise.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 29 lbs.

  • This job requires reaching bending and stooping frequently working in a standing position for long periods of time.

Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Some flexibility in scheduling is required. The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements.

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Safe Food Handling Certification.

  • Persons with Social Service Worker degree prioritized

  • Computer/Database experience including Microsoft Office Word & Excel

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
