Job Summary

Work Shift:

7:00am -7:00pm / 7:00pm - 7:00am (2 Shifts a Month)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
1. Provides personal care including baths shampoo shave back rub position changes makes beds prepares patients for meals feeds patients and passes ice water.
2. Answers call lights and bells promptly to meet patient needs.
3. Collects specimens stool urine sputum etc.
4. Collects inputs and output and records appropriately.
5. Collects and records temperature and vital signs on patient.
6. Obtain and records pertinent information per hospital policy.
7. Assess presence and extent of pain of patient and family information with RN and understand what steps to alleviate.
8. Assist and/or feeds patients provides between meal nourishments provides fresh drinking water and encourages fluids when indicated.
9. Assist in progressive ambulation of patients by gate belt wheelchair stretcher and bed.
10. Administers enemas and douches as indicated and documents appropriately.
11. Operates converter chair lifts scales beds stretchers and wheelchairs.
12. Applies ace bandages ted hose and elastic stockings and sequential compression devices.
13. Assist with oxygen support and incentive spirometer.
14. Assist RN with restraint devices and side rails to ensure safety of patient.
15. Observes isolation techniques and provide direct care to patients in isolation.
16. May serve as a patient sitter.
17. Assist in ostomy care and education.
18. Set up orthopedic appliances.
19. Performs nursing functions requiring skills and judgement (supervised by RN).
20. Maintains and records and reports necessary information in regard to patient care.
21. Confers periodically with RN on activities of the nursing staff and matters that relate to patient care.
22. Assist in patient and family education by the RN.
23. Serves as a liaison between the patient and other members of the health care team.
24. Prepares patient for surgery and other therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
25. Maintains a safe environment for patient care.

Administrative Support:
1. Greets visitors answers telephone screen calls and takes appropriate information and messages and distributes to appropriate employee to meet the callers needs.
2. Maintains clerical and related unit supplies places orders and replenish stock.

Team Participation:
1. Attends bedside report daily huddle and inter-disciplinary rounds.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Experience: One year of experience which includes direct patient care OR the successful completion of a nursing assistant training course or currently enrolled in an accredited BSN RN or Associate RN program and completion of 1 clinical rotation.

Certifications: BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Clerical experience and experience with various computer applications preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Light 1-10 lbs): 0-33% of the work day (occasionally) negligible 34-66% of the workday (frequently) negligible 67-100% of the workday (constantly). Lifting 10 lbs max carrying of small articles such as dockets ledgers files small tools occasional standing & walking frequent sitting close eye work (computers typing reading writing) Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste. chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors communicable diseases electrical shock floor surfaces hot/cold temperatures indoor/outdoor conditions latex lighting patient care/handling injuries radiation shift work travel may be required use of personal protective equipment including respirators environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
