About Young Voices

Young Voices identifies develops and promotes the next generation of pro-liberty communicators in policy journalism and academia. Founded in 2013 we operate a talent pipeline that takes early-career writers and turns them into nationally recognized voices.

In 2025 Young Voices secured over 2100 media placements across outlets including The Wall Street Journal BBC Fox News and Politico reaching an audience of more than 150 million.

Our programs include the Contributor Program which develops emerging media talent the Dissident Project which brings firsthand accounts of life under authoritarian regimes into U.S. classrooms and a growing set of initiatives designed to shape the national conversation around freedom.

About the Role

Young Voices is seeking an Editor to lead the development coaching and placement of contributor content across two core lanes: traditional op-eds and emerging narrative-driven journalism.

This is a high-impact editorial role responsible for helping contributors succeed not only as opinion writers but as story-driven communicators capable of turning policy ideas into compelling human-centered narratives that resonate with broad audiences.

The ideal candidate is an experienced editor or journalist who has worked across both opinion and reported or narrative formats and who is excited about the opportunity to help build a new generation of liberty communicators capable of shaping public debate through both argument and story.

The Editor reports to the Director of Programs and works closely with the broader Programs and Communications teams. This is a full-time in-person position based in New York NY or Washington DC with flexibility for 2 days of remote work per week. Some travel (up to15%) may be required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Editing & Story Development

  • Edit and refine op-eds pitches and scripts from contributors
  • Provide fast high-quality editorial feedback focused on clarity argument and voice
  • Work with contributors to develop stronger story angles including moving from pure commentary into narrative or reported storytelling
  • Help contributors identify and shape compelling human-centered stories behind policy ideas

2. Pitching & Placement

  • Pitch contributor work to top-tier national and digital outlets
  • Manage the full editorial pipeline from pitch to publication
  • Prioritize high-impact placements and coordinate with communications staff on amplification
  • Advise contributors on how to position ideas for editorial success
  • Develop and maintain relationships at top-tier media in NY and DC

3. Coaching & Talent Development

  • Coach contributors directly on writing pitching and storytelling
  • Run trainings and workshops on persuasive writing and narrative journalism
  • Identify high-potential contributors and help accelerate their development
  • Support contributors in developing voice expertise and long-term direction

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in journalism editorial work or media production preferred
  • Experience working in opinion journalism (op-eds commentary analysis) and narrative or reported storytelling (features essays or equivalent formats)
  • Strong editorial instincts for what makes a story compelling to broad audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop early-career writers
  • Familiarity with modern media ecosystems including digital and legacy outlets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deep alignment with Young Voices pro-liberty mission
$60000 - $70000 a year
