The job of Library Media Technician is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for maintaining the library collection at school sites; identifying age appropriate resources for students and teachers utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; and performing clerical functions related to collection processing circulation maintenance and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks.

Essential Functions
Library Management and Support:
Manages the circulation desk including checking materials in and out for students and staff using an automated library system.
Assists students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate library materials for research projects and personal reading.
Provides basic instruction to students on how to use the online catalog and other library resources.
Creates and maintains various records and reports related to circulation and collection size.
Shelves returned books and materials accurately according to the established classification system.
Prepares and distributes overdue notices and processes fees for lost or damaged materials.
Repairs books by mending torn pages reattaching loose spines replacing book covers and repairing bindings.
Orders and processes new library books in accordance with ARS 15-189.07 as well as the districts School Library Book Review Committee recommendations including cataloging barcoding and preparing them for circulation.
Supervises student helpers or volunteers as assigned.
Communicates and maintains records from parents regarding young adult books.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
Serve as the first point of contact for all technology-related issues for students and staff.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with hardware (Chromebooks projectors document cameras interactive flat panels printers etc.).
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with software/application access as well as password resets and account access issues.
Prepares and distributes fine notices for damaged equipment.
Manage printing solutions and troubleshoot printer problems.
Collaborate with the district IT department to escalate and resolve complex technical issues and equipment repairs.
Assign loaner equipment as requested by staff students and subs.
Process and issue student ID badges to be used for checking out library materials and equipment.
Inventory Management:
Assists with the annual inventory of all library books and weeding collection of books damaged beyond repair as well as books not regularly being checked out in accordance with district policy.
Assign and maintain an accurate inventory of all school technology including student Chromebooks staff laptops projectors document cameras speakers and interactive flat panels.
Transfers usable equipment in accordance with district policy.
Coordinate the disposal of old or broken technology in accordance with district policy.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job satisfactorily include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records: installation configuration maintenance of physical computer components and peripherals.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and understand complex multi-step written and oral instructions. The specific demands can vary based on the layout of the library and school. Library Media Technicians often spend significant portions of their day sitting particularly when working at a circulation desk cataloging materials at a computer or performing administrative tasks. Standing is also a common requirement. This includes assisting students with technology problems directly at the desk organizing materials on display supervising study areas and moving around the library to answer questions or assist with equipment in the classrooms. Library Media Technicians may need to lift and carry books boxes of new materials technology equipment and carts of books. The weight can range from light (a single book) to moderate (a box of 20-30 pounds or even up to 35-50 pounds in some cases). Other key functions include walking reaching bending and stooping dexterity pushing and pulling good vision hearing and speaking repetitive motions. Stairs may be present.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
