The Principal of Bartram Academy serves as the instructional leader and visionary for a specialized learning environment designed to meet diverse student needs through innovative and flexible approaches. This leader fosters a student-centered culture focused on engagement accountability and personalized pathways to success including credit recovery accelerated learning and non-traditional educational models.
The principal works collaboratively with staff families and community partners to ensure students are supported academically socially and emotionally. This position supports the mission of Macon County Schools by removing barriers to student success and creating meaningful opportunities for achievement graduation and post-secondary readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation of flexible standards-aligned curriculum and instructional practices
Establish a supportive structured and student-centered school culture
Supervise and evaluate staff in accordance with district and state guidelines
Use data to monitor student progress attendance behavior and credit attainment
Develop and implement individualized and alternative learning pathways for students
Oversee MTSS processes with a focus on intervention re-engagement and student success
Facilitate collaboration among staff to support non-traditional instructional models
Develop implement and monitor the School Improvement Plan
Build strong relationships with students families and community agencies
Ensure compliance with all school district state and federal policies and regulations
Manage school operations including scheduling discipline safety and program coordination
Support credit recovery alternative scheduling and flexible programming options
Promote student accountability engagement and positive behavioral expectations
Lead change initiatives focused on continuous improvement and student outcomes
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Qualifications:
Educational Leadership Certification as required by the State of North Carolina
Masters degree or higher
Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience required
Previous school administrator experience (principal or assistant principal) required
Strong leadership communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse and at-risk student populations
Experience with alternative education credit recovery or non-traditional programs preferred
Ability to analyze data and implement strategies to improve student outcomes
Completion of required background check and district-required trainings
Working Conditions:
School environment including classrooms offices and alternative learning spaces
Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities for school events and meetings
