Azure Technical Architect Role Summary
The Azure Technical Architect serves as a senior technical leader who bridges business objectives and Azure-based technical solutions. This individual is responsible for guiding stakeholders through architectural decisions leading hands-on Azure implementations and mentoring delivery teams with mixed levels of experience. The role requires deep Azure expertise strong communication skills and the ability to influence outcomes across engineering security operations and leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Design own and govern end-to-end Azure architectures including landing zones networking identity security data and application platforms.
- Translate business requirements into scalable secure and cost-optimized Azure solutions aligned to enterprise standards.
- Lead architecture reviews design workshops and technical decision-making forums.
- Serve as the technical authority during implementation resolving complex design or integration challenges.
Implementation & Delivery Oversight
- Actively guide and participate in Azure implementations migrations and modernizations (IaaS PaaS hybrid).
- Partner with engineering and DevOps teams on infrastructure-as-code (Terraform ARM Bicep) and CI/CD practices.
- Ensure architectural integrity throughout delivery while balancing speed risk and operational sustainability.
- Support transition from design to operations ensuring knowledge transfer and long-term supportability.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Engage confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders including customers project managers security teams and executive leadership.
- Clearly articulate architectural decisions tradeoffs and risks in a way that drives alignment and trust.
- Lead whiteboarding sessions executive briefings and technical workshops.
- Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the initiative.
Team Enablement & Mentorship
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to architects engineers and delivery resources across multiple experience levels.
- Establish best practices patterns and reference architectures for Azure delivery teams.
- Raise the overall Azure maturity of delivery teams through coaching documentation and hands-on leadership.
- Know when to dive deep personally versus when to delegate and enable others to execute effectively. Required Experience & SkillsTechnical
- 8 years of experience in infrastructure cloud or enterprise architecture.
- 4 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions on Microsoft Azure.
- Strong expertise in Azure networking identity (Entra ID/AAD) security governance compute and storage services.
- Experience with Azure landing zones hub-and-spoke or VWAN architectures and hybrid connectivity.
- Familiarity with Azure Well-Architected Framework security best practices and cost optimization (FinOps).
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead technical conversations with stakeholders ranging from engineers to executives.
- Experience guiding multiple teams through complex implementations with competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including architecture documentation and presentations.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving clarity and direction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certifications (Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent).
- Experience working in consulting or professional services environments.
- Exposure to DevOps platform engineering or cloud security operating models.
- Experience supporting pre-sales activities technical scoping or SOW development.
