Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to serve as an Owners Representative overseeing mechanical systems design coordination and execution across commercial construction projects. This role bridges the gap between design teams contractors and ownership ensuring that project goals are met in terms of quality cost and schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the Owners technical representative for all mechanical (HVAC plumbing and related) systems throughout the project lifecycle
Review and manage design documents specifications and engineering calculations for accuracy completeness and alignment with owner objectives
Provide oversight during design development and construction phases ensuring adherence to project scope budget and schedule
Coordinate with architects engineers contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve design and field issues
Lead value engineering efforts without compromising system performance or long-term reliability
Review submittals RFIs change orders and commissioning plans
Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor installation quality and progress
Support commissioning activities and ensure systems are delivered fully operational and documented
Identify risks early and proactively recommend solutions
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
10 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a strong design background (consulting engineering preferred)
Proven experience on commercial projects (e.g. office buildings healthcare data centers mixed-use institutional)
Prior experience in an Owners Representative A/E OR MEP consulting or construction administration role strongly preferred
Deep knowledge of HVAC systems building codes and industry standards
Experience with design review construction coordination and commissioning processes
Strong understanding of contract documents and project delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build Design-Build etc.)
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Key Skills
Excellent technical review and problem-solving abilities
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to balance big-picture owner goals with technical detail
Proficiency with construction documents BIM coordination and project management tools
Preferred Experience
Experience working directly with owners or developers
Familiarity with sustainability standards (LEED WELL etc.)
Exposure to 3D coordination and clash detection workflows
