Job Summary

Job Title: MRI Technologist
Specialty: (Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist DRT MRI Specialty)
Site: VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS)
Location: 5901 E. 7th Street Long Beach CA 90822
Duration: 1 year contract with the possibility of four 1 year extension
Shift Schedule:
  • Day Shift 1: 6:30 AM 5:00 PM
  • Day Shift 2: 8:00 AM 6:30 PM
  • Evening Shift: 12:00 PM 10:30 PM
  • Night Shift: 10:15 PM 6:45 AM
  • Weekday & Weekend Coverage (including holidays)
How Many Shifts Needed Per Month: 17 shifts/month (based on 173 hrs/month 10 hr shifts)
Certifications:
  • Current valid ARRT (R) Radiologic Technologist required
  • Advanced ARRT in MRI (MR) required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
  • IV certification preferred but not required
Education: Accredited Radiologic Technology program (per ARRT requirements)
Experience Needed:
  • Minimum 6 months experience if candidate has specific experience on GE MRI scanner (1.5T or 3.0T) OR
  • Minimum 1 year current work experience in MRI modality if candidate does not have GE MRI scanner experience
Special Skills Needed:
  • Experience with GE MRI scanner (1.5T or 3.0T) preferred
  • Demonstrated experience starting IV lines and administering contrast injections
  • PACS experience preferred; AGFA PACS a plus
  • Ability to independently operate superconductive MRI equipment
  • MRI safety practices knowledge
  • Ability to efficiently use computers and technology
Responsibilities:
  • Independently operate Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment to perform a variety of complex MRI imaging exams; practice MRI safety at all times
  • Receive patients explain procedures position patients select and set technical parameters and set up/adjust accessory equipment
  • Operate superconductive MRI equipment employing strong magnetic fields and radio waves to acquire images of the entire body (brain neck spine chest body extremities)
  • Set up MRI suites ensuring sterile supplies contrast materials catheters and all required equipment are present and available
  • Prepare and administer contrast material intravenously under close supervision of radiologist(s) - not independently
  • Send images to PACS archive images post-process images and perform case editing of computer requests and reports
  • Maintain records and enter patient information using the Radiology Vista Package and CPRS
  • Meet or exceed current nationally recognized quality assurance standards (TJC)
  • Comply with all VALBHS policies procedures medical staff bylaws and protocols
  • Participate in all VA mandatory training
