Position Summary

The School of Community Studies is seeking an experienced and passionate casual Instructor to join our Education Assistant Certificate Program as a casual instructor. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to student success and preparing students to support diverse populations in the K 12 education system.


You will deliver high-quality instruction foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment and contribute to curriculum development aligned with current educational practices.


In this role you will facilitate student engagement evaluate student progress and support students in achieving program outcomes. You will also engage with the Education Assistant programming team to ensure consistency in program delivery and student progression.


What Youll Be Doing:

  • Deliver High-Quality Instruction: Lead engaging and inclusive learning experiences across face-to-face online and blended environments. Design and deliver lessons that reflect diverse student needs applying a variety of effective instructional strategies. Continuously enhance curriculum learning materials and assessment tools to ensure relevance and quality. Monitor student progress evaluate performance and provide timely constructive feedback to support student success.
  • Foster a Positive Learning Experience: Create a supportive respectful and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and achievement. Guide students through academic challenges by addressing concerns related to attendance conduct and performance and connecting them with appropriate support such as tutoring or counseling services. Ensure that required accommodations are implemented effectively and contribute to a positive student experience by participating in events that promote Student success.
  • Build Relationships & Promote the Program: Strengthen connections between the program the institution and the broader community. Integrate current and emerging best practices into teaching and curriculum. Collaborate with industry partners advisory committees and community organizations to maintain program relevance. Support student pathways through articulation and transfer opportunities and represent the program at recruitment and community engagement events.
  • Contribute to Institutional Excellence: Support the institutions mission by adhering to policies procedures and academic standards. Engage in ongoing professional development and complete required training. Contribute to special projects applied research initiatives and departmental priorities as needed bringing a collaborative and proactive approach to all aspects of the role.


What Sets You Apart

You are a collaborative and adaptable educator with a strong foundation in K12 education and a passion for adult learning. You bring both practical experience and a thoughtful inclusive approach to teaching with strong mentorship and classroom management skills that foster supportive inclusive learning environments.


You are an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and experience supporting diverse students including those requiring academic behavioural or accessibility supports. You are confident using technology to enhance teaching and learning with proficiency in Microsoft Office and learning management systems such as D2L.


You are available to teach in-person and/or online for Fall 2026.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a K12 classroom
  • Valid Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered


Assets:

  • Familiarity with the Canadian education system
  • Experience working directly with Education Assistants in classroom environments
  • Understanding of Competency Based Education design and delivery
  • Background in the following content areas:
    • Indigenous approaches to education
    • Trauma-informed practice in education
    • Behavioural and academic support in the classroom
    • Supporting diverse learning needs and techniques (Assistive Technology Environmental interventions)

This opening is a casual (faculty) position. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check. If your education was received internationally we will require you to provide an international education assessment through IQAS WES or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire.
