About Burlington Technical Center

BTC is part of the Burlington School District and provides hands-on career-focused learning experiences for high school students across a variety of technical and professional fields. Our programs emphasize skill development safety collaboration and real-world application.

The Burlington Technical Center (BTC) is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Paraeducator to support student learning across our dynamic Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in hands-on real-world learning environments and is passionate about supporting diverse learners. As a BTC Paraeducator you will work alongside instructors and student support staff to provide academic behavioral and executive functioning support to students across multiple program areasincluding classroom and technical lab settings. Your work will directly contribute to student success in both school and future career pathways.

Essential Functions

Support Student Learning & Engagement

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs
  • Reinforce classroom instruction and help students stay engaged in academic and technical tasks
  • Support students in meeting goals outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) when applicable
  • Assist with executive functioning skills such as organization time management and task completion

Work Across CTE Programs & Environments

  • Assist instructors in delivering curriculum across multiple CTE program areas
  • Support students in both classroom and lab/shop environments including reinforcing safety procedures and proper equipment use
  • Adapt to varying schedules locations and program needs across BTC sites
  • Supervise students during transitions off-site programs and work-based learning experiences

Collaborate with Staff

  • Work closely with instructors case managers and student support staff
  • Assist with classroom setup materials preparation and organization of tools and equipment
  • Monitor student progress and share feedback with the instructional team
  • Help maintain a positive inclusive and structured learning environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with adolescents or in an educational setting (preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Flexibility reliability and willingness to adapt to changing assignments
  • Commitment to supporting diverse learners including students with disabilities

Preferred

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in education human services or a related field
  • Familiarity with Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs or technical environments

Working Conditions

  • Work environments may include classrooms offices outdoor areas or other school-based environments.

  • Occasional exposure to varying weather conditions and elevated noise levels.

  • Physical ability to assist students including lifting or carrying up to50 poundswhen necessary.

  • Ability to safely assist or restrain a student when required in accordance with district training and protocols.

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Education Support Professionals of the Burlington School District.

In addition to the base rate of pay. Intensive Needs Paras will receive a premium for hours worked directly with intensive special needs (ISN) students of $4.00 per hour.

BENEFITS:

Health and life insurance benefits are available for this position after a period of 45 working days. Dental benefits are available after 1 full working year.
