The School
The role is within our School of Applied Sciences and Technology. The departments within the School are located on our Grande Prairie campus and our Fairview campus. The School offers a variety of programminginFine Arts Humanities and Social Sciences Sciences and Animal Health Technology. Through this programmingwe offer a variety of certificates diplomas university transfer coursesas well as a degree in computing science.
The Role
The Fine Arts Department requires a full-time position to teach courses in our newly formed Graphic Design program. This is a tenure-track position based upon favourable evaluations and budget.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new Graphic Design Diploma program in Grande Prairie Alberta. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing curriculum establishing program identity and mentoring students entering the creative industries.

Requirements
A full engaged presence on campus is required as well as a willingness to participate in collectively shaping the future of the Fine Arts Department.
Education
Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or equivalent graduate degree in Graphic Design Visual Communication Design or a closely related discipline.
Teaching Experience
- Previous post-secondary teaching experience in Graphic Design or Visual Arts preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to teach foundational and intermediate design principles
- Experience developing curriculum assignments and project-based learning outcomes aligned with industry standards.
- Ability to apply different instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with different learning styles.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional industry experience in graphic design visual communication or related creative industries.
- Demonstrated experience in both digital and print design production
- Experience working with current industry-standard tools
- Portfolio demonstrating professional client-based or applied design work
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills suitable for diverse student populations
- Ability to mentor students entering creative industries or freelance practice
- Commitment to inclusive accessible and student-centered practices
- Willingness to contribute to curriculum development and program growth over time
- Candidates will be expected to continue creative and professional activities while teaching
- Knowledge of Northwestern Polytechnic courses and current educational technologies commonly found in classrooms (e.g. videoconferencing D2L) are desired.
- Willingness to work with and support the Teaching & Learning Centre
