JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Guidance Counselor

Responsible To: Principal

Basic Function: Provide a functional comprehensive program of direct services

for all children utilizing the expertise gained through

professional training in the areas of school counseling. These

services will emphasize counseling children; consultation with

teachers parents and other significant adults; and coordinating

a variety of activities and functions related to the academic

social emotional and physical needs of students.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Counsel children individually and in small groups concerning a variety of developmental tasks and problems.

1. Provide prevention programs through classroom guidance activities.

1. Consult with teachers and parents about childrens needs concerns and academic issues.

1. Collaborate with school staff and community representatives in assessing student needs and utilize the data to plan and evaluate the guidance program.

1. Coordinate with faculty parents attendance personnel and District Court to correct the attendance problems of truant students.

1. Provide home visits as needed to assess family circumstances and make needed referrals to community resources for problems interfering with the childs academic progress or social emotional or physical development.

1. Serve as a resource person on the Special Education Admissions and Release Committee when appropriate.

1. Refer students to the proper authorities for child abuse or neglect when suspicion exists and provide support services to those children as needed.

1. Assist or serve as the coordinator of testing and interprets test data to teachers and parents as needed.

1. Consult with teachers in planning and providing classroom guidance activities.

1. Assist new students with orientation and acclamation to their new school environment.

1. Select and purchase program materials and manage the budget allocation.

1. Select and attend professional learning required by the state and district.

1. Performs other duties as assigned by principal or superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Kentucky certification for School Guidance Counselor

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

Evaluation:

Performance of will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
