Job Summary

Summary - Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment organizing and preparing samples conducting experiments and recording and analyzing data.
Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelors degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.

Essential Functions
-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
-Prepare and handle samples reagents and solutions ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures protocols and results.
-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
-Assist in data interpretation and presentation contributing to research findings and reports.

Prior laboratory experience either through academic coursework internships or employment 1-2 years preferred

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection analysis and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures results and challenges.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs routine laboratory tests and procedures as directed with supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
  • Collects data via laboratory experiments utilizing standard laboratory equipment structured interviews library research data processing and/or other research techniques.
  • If applicable after appropriate training assists in surgery and the care of animals.
  • If applicable after appropriate training and with supervision uses radioactive infectious bio-hazardous and/or toxic substances.
  • Records data according to project requirements.
  • If applicable after appropriate training assist with surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Processes acquired data and assists in its summarization using standard scientific techniques including computer programs.
  • Makes periodic reports of project status to supervisor.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of equipment supplies and work area. Alerts supervisor to equipment and supply needs.
  • Performs clerical duties incidental to research tasks as required.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs seminars and/or conferences.
  • Performs other laboratory related functions as required or directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Work requires a bachelors degree or equivalent combination or education and experience. Requires intermediate math skills and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form; .deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups of employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Potential Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Job may require performance of tasks that involve potential for exposure to blood body fluids or tissues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less and depth perception. Work requires some lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
