Senior Full-Stack Java Developer Agile Public Sector Program

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Java Developer to join an existing Product & Revision Management team within a large transformation program.

The consultant will translate business requirements and architectural designs into robust scalable and testable software components while actively contributing to sprint planning refinement and delivery.

The role requires strong autonomy technical leadership mindset and the ability to integrate quickly into a mature Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate functional and architectural requirements into technical designs and working software
• Design build test and maintain backend services and APIs
• Implement automated testing as part of the development lifecycle
• Work closely with business analysts product owners and architects
• Contribute to sprint planning and backlog refinement
• Ensure high-quality code aligned with best practices (clean code maintainability performance)
• Collaborate within a cross-functional Agile team
• Support continuous delivery and production releases (occasional standby during releases)

Technical Requirements (must-have)

• 10 years experience in software development
• Expert level Java (10 years)
• Strong experience with REST APIs (10 years)
• Spring Boot (5 years)
• Git (GitHub / GitLab / Bitbucket) (10 years)
• CI/CD tools such as Jenkins (5 years)
• JPA / Hibernate (5 years)
• Maven (2 years)
• Kubernetes / OpenShift (5 years)
• PostgreSQL or similar relational databases (5 years)
• Message brokers (e.g. ActiveMQ RabbitMQ) (3 years)
• OpenAPI / Swagger (2 years)

Nice to have

• Docker
• Angular frontend experience
• BPMN / CMMN
• OAuth2 / security frameworks
• Domain Driven Design Clean Code TDD
• Experience in large-scale (>3M) enterprise programs
• Experience in social security or public administration systems
• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot

Engagement Model

• Full-time: 8h/day 150 working days (until end 2026)
• Minimum 2 days/week onsite presence (Brussels area) remaining remote
• Standby availability during planned production releases (3 per year)
• Agile Scrum delivery with 2-week sprint cycles
• Focus on MVP-driven delivery with iterative enhancements

Contracting Options

• Freelance / independent contractor
• Or employment via our internal staffing structure with assignment to the project
