Summary:
The Participation and Access to Records Worker is a dual-purpose role designed to bridge the gap between statutory data requirements and compassionate social care support. You will act as the primary point of contact for care-experienced adults and those who have received Childrens Social Care services as they navigate the often emotional process of requesting their personal mission is to ensure that Subject Access Requests (SAR) and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests are handled within legal timescales while simultaneously providing bespoke wellbeing support to applicants. Furthermore you will drive the councils Participation Agenda by developing a scheme of lived-experience Voice Ambassadors to ensure the voices of children young people and families directly influence service design and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Act as the lead contact for individuals requesting social care files guiding them through the process from initial inquiry to final disclosure.
- Work with Information Governance and Legal teams to maximize the information shared with applicants taking a generous approach to redaction and proactively seeking third-party consents.
- Recruit supervise and mentor a team of Voice Ambassadors (individuals with lived experience) to ensure their perspectives shape service delivery.
- Assist the wider Participation Team with events and initiatives aimed at increasing engagement with vulnerable children and families.
Qualifications:
- A good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent). While this is a non-qualified social care role relevant certifications in Social Care Youth Work or Information Governance are highly desirable.
Essentials:
- Experience working with care-experienced young people vulnerable adults or within a Childrens Services environment.
- Experience handling sensitive/confidential data and navigating complex legislative frameworks (SARs/FOIs).
- Experience supervising volunteers or staff particularly those with lived experience or from vulnerable backgrounds.
- Evidence of training or a strong working knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
- Must have (or be willing to undergo) advanced safeguarding training for children and vulnerable adults.
