The Chief Mortgage Officer is responsible for leading and overseeing the banks mortgage business including origination underwriting servicing and portfolio management. The CMO will drive growth in mortgage lending while ensuring strong risk management regulatory compliance and an exceptional customer experience. This role requires strategic leadership deep industry expertise and the ability to optimize end-to-end mortgage operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
Develop and execute the banks mortgage lending strategy aligned with overall business goals.
Drive growth in mortgage originations market share and profitability.
Identify new market opportunities products and distribution channels.
2. Mortgage Operations Oversight
Oversee end-to-end mortgage lifecycle including origination processing underwriting closing and servicing.
Ensure operational efficiency turnaround times and service quality standards are met.
Implement process improvements and digital transformation initiatives.
3. Credit Risk & Underwriting Governance
Establish and enforce mortgage underwriting standards and credit policies.
Monitor loan quality delinquency trends and portfolio performance.
Collaborate with risk and credit teams to ensure prudent lending practices.
4. Compliance & Regulatory Management
Ensure adherence to all mortgage-related regulations and internal policies.
Oversee audit readiness and regulatory reporting requirements.
Maintain strong controls around documentation disclosures and fair lending practices.
5. Sales & Channel Management
Lead mortgage sales across multiple channels (retail broker correspondent digital).
Develop partnerships with real estate agents brokers and developers.
Support marketing initiatives to enhance brand presence in the mortgage market.
6. Customer Experience & Relationship Management
Ensure a seamless and high-quality customer journey throughout the mortgage process.
Address escalations and enhance client satisfaction and retention.
Leverage customer insights to improve products and services.
7. Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor teams across sales underwriting operations and servicing.
Build a high-performance customer-centric culture.
Ensure ongoing training and development aligned with industry standards.
8. Reporting & Performance Management
Develop and track KPIs related to origination volume approval rates turnaround time and portfolio quality.
Provide regular reports and insights to executive leadership and the Board.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Finance Business Administration Economics or related field; MBA preferred.
1215 years of experience in mortgage banking or housing finance with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Deep knowledge of mortgage products underwriting standards servicing and regulatory frameworks.
Proven track record of growing mortgage portfolios and managing credit risk effectively.
