DescriptionRepairs damaged bodies and body parts of automotive vehicles such as automobiles buses and light trucks according to repair manuals using hand tools and power tools; removes upholstery accessories electrical and hydraulic window seat-operating equipment and trim to gain access to vehicle body and fender. Refinishes repaired surface using paint spray gun and sander aims headlights and may paint surface after performing body repairs. Coats surfaces of motor vehicles such as automobiles buses and trucks with paint lacquer epoxy resin or other material using brushes rollers spray guns and other devices.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares equipment for painting including de-stenciling and abrasive blasting.
- Prepares surfaces for painting tasks by scraping filing and sanding holes and cracks.
- Removes damaged fenders panels and grills using wrenches cutting torch and bolts.
- Files grinds and sands repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
- Removes dents using hammer and fills depressions with appropriate filler material.
- Has knowledge of fiberglass and metal repair techniques.
- Manually files excess filler to match original contour smoothes filler using air sander and cleans repair area with air gun.
- Uses corrosion preventative and treatment products specified in established procedures.
- Mix match and apply paint products polyester resin/hardener specified in applicable manuals.
- Apply reflective tape vinyl lettering and decals including stenciling and marking in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
- Paint interiors and exteriors of equipment.
- Safely operate a Paint Booth and Abrasive Blasting facility:
- Ensure proper wear and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure cleanliness of facilities by removing paint dust particles blasting beads and paint accumulations within the facilities and accumulated on fixtures;
- Ensure adequate lighting and ventilation is operational for task;
- Safely use riggings hoists ladders scaffolding and other equipment used in the painting process and ensure they are serviceable/operational.
- Replace and properly dispose of air filters;
- Use correct methods for limiting dust debris and hazardous materials from contaminating the environment.
- Apply paper to protect interior surfaces of the Paint Booth;
- Ensure only authorized personnel are allowed entry into the facility during blasting or painting operations and are adequately protected with PPE.
- Required to use respiratory PPE during abrasive blasting or painting activities.
- Ensure safe handling of paint tools IAW Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Store handle label use and dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state local and federal environmental standards and regulations.
Other Collateral Duties:
May perform other duties as assigned by the Fleet Maintenance Manager/Supervisor
RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma preferred.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in corrosion prevention and control cleaning and painting.
- Apprenticeship program training and minimum of five years experience as a journeyman.
- Combination of education training and experience equivalent to the standards listed above and provides the necessary knowledge as well as abilities.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Must have a valid Class C Drivers license and maintain a safe driving record.
Specialized Experience:
- Basic knowledge of sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
- Knowledge of industrial applications and appropriate coatings for metal and structures exposed to adverse weather and moisture conditions.
- Knowledge of standard hand and power tools and equipment used in painting activities; ability to use and operate hand and power tools as needed in a safe efficient manner.
- Knowledge of safety standard/precautions pertaining to painting and ability to read and follow MSDS recommendations and requirements.
- Ability to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
Language Skills:
- Must have excellent verbal and written command of the English language with the ability to read and comprehend written correspondence.
- Able to understand/interpret verbal and written instructions to perform required duties.
Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment may be very loud.
- Work may be performed outside. Employee may be exposed to normal environment conditions: Sun Rain Heat and Cold.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform heavy manual labor including: bending stooping reaching carrying lifting pulling and pushing heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
- Requires manual dexterity of both hands and feet to perform activities such as: lifting overhead twisting and bending while lifting and repetitive arm motion below at and above shoulder level.
- Able to climb ladders stairs ramps and work stands and perform major duties and responsibilities while wearing personal protective equipment.
- Able to work in limited spaces.
