The Department of Environment and Geography at California State University San Marcos is accepting applications for Fall 2026. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Seeking lecturers to teach an upper-division physical science general education (UD25) course in climate change. The course description is below.

Course Description

Examines the physical basis of the climate system including solar atmospheric biologic and geologic evidence supporting our understanding of Earths past present and future climate cycles. Compares recent climate data with that of past climates to demonstrate how Earths current climates are changing leading to the designation of a new era The Anthropocene. Concludes with an examination of climate modeling and potential impacts on components of Earth and human systems such as biological diversity water issues and international treaties.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A masters degree in Geography Earth Science or a related field
  • Evidence of specialization in earth systems science or climate science
  • Higher education teaching experience in geography courses
  • Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employee Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside of California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Geography Earth Science or a related field
  • Higher education teaching experience in general education science courses

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5507 - $8000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer B - AY: $6221 - $13224per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
