Under general supervision of the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) Student Services Center and Educational Opportunity Programs (SSC/EOP) Satellite Director the Undergraduate Academic Advisor provides individual and group advisement support EOP initiatives participate in outreach events analyze advising data and contribute to workshops and services that promote student persistence and degree completion across diverse populations within the college environment while alignment with institutional policies.

  • Conducts individual and group academic advisement (including planning presenting advising and proactive follow-up) and summarizes advisement reports or other reports as requested by the CECS SSC/EOP Director or Associate Dean.
  • Assists with EOP Freshman/Transfer Advisement transitional programs and admissions.
  • Attends staff meetings and participates in professional development/training sessions as needed/requested.
  • Assists the Director in developing promotion materials implementing/coordinating special events such as Admitted Matadors Day Majors Fair and community college and high school recruitment fairs etc. analyzes advising-related data and plans/conducts advising workshops.
  • Assists the Director in planning coordinating and implementing advisement retention and tutoring services provided by the College of Engineering and Computer Science Student Services Center/EOP (CECS SSC/EOP).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience working with students in multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations; students that are historically under-represented under prepared low-income and first-generation college students; developing advisement procedures; experience with Educational Opportunity and/or Trio Program and working knowledge of SOLAR and/or EAB program is highly desired.
