Position: Part Time Nurse

Reports to: CFO

Classification: Part-Time Exempt

Schedule: M - F 1pm - 4/5pm

Supervises: None


Scope of work:
Medication administration and triaging acute injuries and illnesses with follow up


Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with and knowledge of school nursing is preferred
  • Detail oriented meticulously organized
  • Work independently with limited supervision; excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google apps SNAP health portal and school management software
  • Exceptional ability to maintain confidential and/or highly sensitive information
  • Must be comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and committed to embracing differences and valuing multiple perspectives

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts
  • Bachelors degree in nursing or closely related field
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency

General Responsibilities:

The Nurse is responsible for medication administration and providing preventive acute and follow-up care for all students in grades Toddler through 8th during the academic year; acting as a liaison with students physicians; ensuring all students health paperwork is up to date and administering the SNAP health portal. Physical requirements of the job include frequent walking through and between campus buildings the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to injury/illness incidents and lifting or carrying small children. Potential hazards include contact with blood and other body fluids potential for contact with blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases exposure to chemicals including antiseptics and disinfectant and exposure to biomedical wastes and hazards.

Specific Responsibilities:

Constituent Relations

  • Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators faculty staff parents students school and community organizations and the general public.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other nurses

Administration

  • Treat illnesses and injuries of students that includes determining method of treatment per guidelines documenting and notifying parents/guardians. Remain with and give comfort to the ill or injured student until released to the parent/guardian.
  • Administer medications including distribution of prescription and non-prescription medications to students per doctors instructions and communicating with parents about medication issues such as changes and refills
  • Maintain the health office in a clean orderly and safe condition; dispose of biomedical waste and hazards according to established procedures; maintain inventory and order first aid supplies as necessary; prepare and restock first aid kits for classrooms and field trips as assigned. Ensure medications are secured in double locked cabinets.
  • Administer SNAP health portal including maintaining student health records immunization records handicap and allergy information and hearing/vision screening. Maintain accident reports including treatment records/logs. Ensure all information is documented clearly accurately and legally.
  • Receive and review student health files incoming from other schools; communicate with other schools as needed to clarify or obtain information as needed.
  • Coordinate and complete documentation and releases for field trips and other off campus activities as needed.
  • Assure students have updated immunization records; review records of new students and notify students of follow-up shots; prepare letters or exclusion notices and notify parents and administration as appropriate. Track requests sent home such as for immunization records.
  • Screen for head lice to include distributing information to parents regarding treatment of affected students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student health information at all times.

Mobility & Engagement: Frequently moving about the campus to follow the school schedule
including ascending/descending stairs and transitioning between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Student Interaction: The ability to position oneself at a childs level (e.g. kneeling sitting or crouching) and assist students with daily tasks like zipping jackets tying shoes or managing materials.
Supervision: Effectively monitoring students during recess and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
Physical Assistance: Occasionally moving or lifting classroom materials or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
Sensory & Focus: Maintaining focus and safety in a moderately noisy environment with frequent interruptions; specific vision capabilities are required to ensure student safety and accurate record-keeping.
