PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 48000 - 58000 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

This is an Across The UK (ATUK) role based in one of our regional hubs and will require monthly travel to London for operational and editorial reasons.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join BBC Music as an Assistant Commissioner focused on growing and innovatively scaling our on demand music content beyond BBC platforms.
This role leads the team whose mission is to innovate to grow our podcast audio/visual formats in order to reach the biggest possible audience. You will lead how our content performs across YouTube RSS social and live thinking about how it travels how it connects and how it brings audiences back to key BBC moments.
You will work across existing titles and new ideas helping them grow evolve and reach new audiences. Alongside this you will lead our under 24 commissioning support the development of visual formats and explore how our biggest brands can scale further.
We are particularly focused on reaching and engaging under 24 audiences and creating content that feels native to the platforms they use every day.

You will also manage and support the team who are working on key off platform titles helping set direction prioritise work and deliver results.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone who loves music and understands how it connects with audiences today.
You are digitally native in how you think about content with a strong sense of how platforms work how audiences behave and how ideas need to adapt to cut through. You might already work in commissioning but you could just as easily come from social digital platforms marketing labels or content partnerships.
A strong understanding of under 24 audiences is important whether that comes from your professional experience your own consumption or both.
You do not need to have commissioning in your CV. What matters is your perspective your initiative and your ability to apply your skills to help our content grow.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Lead the growth of our existing podcasts and audio visual titles across YouTube RSS social and live identifying opportunities to increase reach engagement and audience loyalty
- Shape how content is distributed and presented off platforms building strong working relationships with labels platforms and talent teams to support distribution align with release moments and unlock new audience opportunities
- Commission and develop new formats with a focus on visual storytelling under 24 audiences and ideas designed to work natively on platforms
- Use performance data audience insight and platform trends to inform decisions improve results and guide the ongoing evolution of formats and brands
- Understand the BBCs USPs in the OD Music and the Music Podcast space and identify how we use them to drive growth.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Experience managing content campaigns or partnerships across social marketing video or audio with a clear understanding of how to reach and grow under 24 audiences
- Strong understanding of how platforms such as YouTube and social channels operate and are set to develop including what drives discovery engagement and repeat consumption
- Extensive experience using data and insight to shape decisions improve performance and identify opportunities for growth
- Experience working with external partners such as labels platforms talent or commercial teams with the ability to build effective and collaborative relationships
- Ability to lead projects and manage multiple priorities bringing structure clarity and momentum to complex areas of work.
DESIRABLE:
- Background in video visual content or platform first formats
- Experience in commercial content partnerships or revenue generating media
- Understanding of the music industry and how artists and releases are marketed
- Experience working across editorial social and marketing teams
