OVERVIEW
The Extended School Year (ESY) Program is designed to provide continued specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities beyond the regular school year as determined by each students Individualized Education Program (IEP). The ESY Special Education Teacher is responsible for delivering specially designed instruction aligned to IEP goals supporting skill maintenance preventing regression and ensuring continuity of services in a structured and supportive learning environment.
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the ESY Site Administrator and/or Site Facilitator the ESY Special Education Teacher provides direct instruction to students with disabilities implements IEPs and monitors student progress. The teacher collaborates with staff to ensure that instructional practices accommodations and supports are aligned with each students individualized needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan and deliver specially designed instruction aligned to students IEP goals
- Implement accommodations modifications and behavior intervention plans as outlined in student IEPs
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals during the ESY session
- Develop and utilize instructional materials that support student engagement and access to the curriculum
- Provide a structured safe and supportive learning environment for all students
- Supervise and direct the work of instructional paraprofessionals and personal care assistants
- Collaborate with related service providers to support continuity of services as applicable
- Maintain accurate documentation and data collection in accordance with division expectations
- Communicate effectively with staff and ESY leadership regarding student progress and needs
- Comply with school division policies procedures and expectations
- Attend all assigned ESY sessions and required training
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Administrator and/or Site Facilitator
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education required;
Experience working with students with disabilities across a range of needs preferred;
Experience developing and implementing IEPs and behavior supports preferred
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Summer ESY Program; up to 4 hours per day during assigned session(s)
