Primary work location: Oshawa North with flexibility to work at other DCHC sites as required.

Position Overview
The Community Worker (Outreach Assistant) supports the planning and delivery of Black Health & Wellness (BHW) initiatives including outreach booths community events and mobile clinics. Working under the supervision of the BHW Manager and Community Health Worker this role focuses on engaging community members promoting culturally safe health information and assisting with program logistics.
The position offers hands-on experience in community engagement health equity and grassroots outreach with ongoing mentorship and skill development.
To be eligible for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative you must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; or have completed a diploma or a degree
- be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under theImmigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning setup and delivery of Black Health & Wellness outreach activities including community events booths and mobile clinics
Engage community members in a respectful culturally safe and inclusive manner to promote health awareness and services
Support participant registration surveys and data collection in alignment with program requirements and privacy standards
Help distribute health promotion materials and provide basic information on available services and resources
Contribute to event coordination tasks including logistics setup and breakdown
Participate in weekly check-ins and receive on-site guidance and mentorship from supervisors
Build skills in community outreach equity-focused communication and collaborative teamwork
Represent the organization positively within the community.
Qualifications
- Proof of attending post-secondary education as of September 2026 or have completed a diploma or degree
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in community health black health & wellness health equity or social services
- Comfortable supporting community events including outreach booths and mobile clinic
- Organized detailoriented and comfortable managing multiple tasks
- Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications (Microsoft/Excel)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on event schedules
- Current Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening) if in the age range of 18-30.
- Valid G Ontario drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
Full vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for this position (DCHC will however adhere to its duty to accommodate those who are unable to be fully vaccinated for a reason related to a human rights protected ground).
