Job Summary
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:
Utilizes nursing assessment management and educational skills in providing direct patient care.
Facilitates communication among nursing medical assistant staff & medical providers.
Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests according to established guidelines.
Administers injections and immunizations; maintains immunization records. Maintains vaccine inventory and prepares monthly reports.
Stay current with updates from CDC and MDPH requirements and restrictions regarding vaccine management storage and handling and clinical guidelines.
The site point person for DPH audits and inspection on proper storage and handling practices of vaccine inventory.
Schedules nurse visits with patients as appropriate
Annual evaluations training scheduling delegating work and taking disciplinary actions when needed.
Ensures review of all incoming laboratory reports referral of abnormal reports to appropriate provider
Manages follow-up systems for abnormal pap results mammograms and childhood immunizations.
Prepares nursing staff schedules (RNs Medical Assistants LPNs)
Schedules daily assignments of nursing staff and Medical Assistants
Monitors medical supplies and equipment weekly. Orders supplies to run floor efficiently and effectively within confines of budget.
Assists in development of appropriate educational materials and/or programs for patients families and fellow health care professionals of the Center.
Conducts staff audits and reviews to monitor compliance with workflows policies and procedures.
May participate in medical and/or nursing research.
Work in collaboration with front desk supervisor to ensure proper staffing and education of personnel.
Work collaboratively with all supervisors and departments.
Maintain open communication with CHC directors and Corporate Directors related to medical care.
Handle situations that arise from agitated or dissatisfied patients. Fill out grievance reports for Quality control review.
Participates in defining nursing standards practices and educational needs of patient care staff.
Participates in Health Centers community activities (health fairs immunization clinics screening clinics)
Managing patient care is a team effort that involves clinical and non-clinical staff interacting with patients.
Demonstrate understanding and commitment of the health center mission.
Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the established CHC Values and Standards
Performs other related duties as needed and as assigned.
Provides clinical assistance when required for Medical Dental and Behavioral Health Departments
Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with the client which ensures that direct and indirect nursing care services provide for the clients safety comfort hygiene and protection and for disease prevention and restorative measures. Formulates and directs plan of care.
The RN Manager provides care directly or delegates to subordinates based on the legal scopes of practice of the subordinates and on the preparation and capability needed in the tasks to be delegated and effectively supervises nursing care being given by the RNs LPNs or MAs per RN Standards of Competence.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan through observation of the clients physical condition and behavior signs and symptoms of illness and reactions to treatment and through communication with the client and health team members and modifies the plan as needed.
Acts as the clients advocate as circumstances require by initiating action to improve health care or to change decisions or activities which are against the interests or wishes of the client and by giving the client the opportunity to make informed decisions about health care before it is provided.
Assists in developing and implementing a nursing quality improvement component to monitor the delivery of nursing triage services in accordance with the established standards and procedures.
Prepares or supervises the preparation of periodic reports statistics and studies.
Assists in the development of and implementation of protocols and procedures and in the training of staff to enable staff to perform nursing education in the nursing units and to maintain the competency levels of all clinical staff in accordance with corporate standards for clinical practice.
Works with OSHA supervisor to maintain good standards of safety on floor. Monitoring staffs compliance in meeting all of OSHAs standards (education standards)
Personnel and Operations:
Recruit select assign and evaluate all medical personnel.
Demonstrates team building skills.
Develops and implements staffing patterns to ensure maximum efficiency.
Counsels and supports staff on personnel issues such as career development work problems or interpersonal conflicts.
Finance:
Keeps track of employees time vacation requests sick days and balances in CHCs time keeping system
Prepares practice grant-based operating and capital budgets under the direction of medical.
Monitors ordering and maintains fiscal responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical nurse
Minimum 2-year supervisor experience recommended.
Currently Licensed as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its Board of Registration in Nursing
Computer skills for accurate data entry
AHA BLS Health Care Provider certification or equivalent.
Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced medical office environment.
Supervision Exercised: Supervises staff RNs LPNs and Medical Assistants.
Competencies: Individual departments may develop competencies which are communicated and maintained through CHCs performance evaluation system.
Environmental Working Conditions: Usual working environment found in outpatient primary care office setting. Exposure to blood products body fluids cleaning solutions and medications.
Physical Requirements: The physical and mental demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include near visual acuity to observe changes in health/illness status of patients. Manual skills required include good eye and hand coordination in combination with finger dexterity for administration of injections treatments etc. Good color vision is required for perceiving changes in skin color and colors of medicines solutions etc.
