At Southeast Elementary and Middle every student is nurtured in an individually paced learning environment. Guided by the award-winning Every Child Ready instructional model pre-K3-4 teachers work through academically centered themes such as Family and Community Not All That Different and Space and Astronomy to instill the skills necessary for lifelong learning. Students in grades K-8 follow a challenging and culturally diverse curriculum that develops strong foundations in English and language arts mathematics science and social studies while developing character traits such as hard work critical thinking and teamwork. One of the few D.C. campuses with an in-house library Southeast empowers students to explore classic and contemporary books art and music as part of their daily school experience.

Friendship opened Southeast in 2005 on the site of a former charter school. Following a $15 million investment the new Southeast campus emerged complete with new classrooms a gymnasium a student dining hall an interactive library and a technology-rich SmartLab.

• Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of their learning that helps foster students intellectual social and emotional development.
• Provide daily instruction including clear learning outcomes well-designed lessons and high-quality assessments that align to Friendships curriculum and standards.
• Incorporate into lessons creative hands-on learning experiences that broaden students exposure and interests help foster student ingenuity and require application of knowledge and skills acquired through daily instruction.
• Provide a classroom environment that is visually appealing rich with resources aligned to curriculum and standards and honors students achievement with current and accurate displays of exemplary student work.
• Communicate to students to understand their talents interests and needs and to convey learning expectations and their progress toward meeting those expectations.
• Communicate regularly with families to identify students talents interests and needs and update parents regarding students achievements and progress.
• Collaborate with school-based staff and throughout the Friendship network in staff meetings regular analysis sessions and professional learning designed to enhance students learning experience and increase student achievement.
• Professional background in one or more of the following types of Art
  • Instrumental Music
  • Photography
  • Graphics Arts

  • Theatre Production
