Yard Laborer

Position Overview:

The Yard Laborer is responsible for supporting daily operations in a steel yard by safely handling materials maintaining organization and assisting with loading and processing steel products. This role is critical to ensuring workflow efficiency accurate material handling and adherence to safety standards in an outdoor industrial environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a steel or industrial yard and must be able to accurately take and read measurements to ensure materials meet job specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Measure and verify steel materials using tape measures and other tools to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications
• Read and interpret basic measurements work orders and material requirements
• Assist with loading and unloading steel products onto trucks and/or designated storage areas
• Sort stage and organize materials within the yard to support workflow efficiency
• Operate hand tools and assist equipment operators as needed
• Perform general labor duties including lifting moving and securing materials
• Maintain a clean and organized yard ensuring safe working conditions at all times
• Follow all safety procedures and company guidelines when handling materials and equipment
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a steel yard construction or industrial environment preferred
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and take precise measurements (required)
• Strong understanding of basic math and measurement conversions
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Dependable safety-conscious and able to work in a team environment
• Experience with material handling rigging or working around heavy equipment is a plus

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat and cold
• Frequently lift carry push and pull materials up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stand walk bend and perform physical labor for extended periods
• Exposure to dust noise and industrial yard conditions
