Job Summary
This internship position supports La Casita Centers Children and Youth Enrichment team. This team works to provide a safe and nurturing environment to support young accompaniments at La Casita Center and enhance academic and social skills in children through formal and informal programming. This is an unpaid internship.
Management and supervision: The assigned support person for onboarding and supervisory functions is the Capacity Building Coordinator. The interns Children Enrichment experience and delegation of tasks will be given by the Children & Youth Enrichment Community Liaison
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Campamento de La Alegría program(school aged children June and July)
- Engage students by responding to their questions uplifting their work and checking in with students
- Support Camp volunteers as needed
- Other duties as assigned pertaining to the camp (may include supporting with meals menu and grocery list coordination coordination of volunteers and support with virtual content)
- Supports the team to provide lessons and activities to students
- Works directly with students during field trips and/or special events
- Escuelita(pre-K program September - May)
- Prepare materials for activities
- Set up and clean up meals and activities
- Assist lead teacher in the classroom
- Provide one on one support to students
- Mentes Futuras Tutoring Program(September - May)
- Assists with the Chromebook Loan Process
- Communicate with students & families involved in the program
- General Child Enrichment Services
- Supports the child care area for daily walk-in programming community events Encuentros and Fundraising events working with volunteers as needed
- Set up and clean up of Children Enrichment spaces
- Supports the team in the planning and execution of the Día de Los Niñxs y Regreso A Clases events
- Builds rapport with families and children being accompanied.
- Researches and provides input with team members on how to provide culturally competent and holistic child enrichment practices.
- Partnerships with Community Organizations
Supports tabling and outreach events throughout the year
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work well with children
Exhibit leadership and organization skills
Capacity to multitask and prioritize tasks
Must possess the ability to relate to parents and children and have a positive creative
attitude
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Ability to climb sit stand push walk kneel and stoop
Ability to tolerate heat and humidity for extended periods of time
Noise level of work environment is high
