FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of journey-level electrical work; may serve as lead worker over helper. Employees in this class perform journey-level electrical work in the installation and repair of electrical wiring circuits fixtures panel boxes and outlets. Work involves serving as a lead worker assigning work to inspecting the work of and training the helper in required methods and skills. Work is performed in varying weather and safety conditions. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for adherence to established maintenance and repair standards. May be required to work overtime or weekends as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installs maintains alters and repairs wiring electrical devices machinery and equipment; cuts bends and threads conduit; pulls wire through conduit.
- Installs fixtures outlets and switches and makes wire connections.
- Finds and replaces defective wiring and makes connections to new electrical installations.
- Makes repairs to small electrical motors and appliances.
- Oversees keeping service truck stocked with needed parts supplies and tools; identifies needed parts- and vendors; picks up parts and supplies from vendors.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Install service equipment for modular and mobile classrooms.
- Install commercial 3-phase service equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair 3-phase circuits and equipment.
- Replace breakers in lighting panels power panels and service equipment.
- Pull fiber optic and other low voltage cables above ceilings and underground.
- Use of motorized equipment such as trenchers bucket trucks and derrick trucks.
- Assist other departments and divisions in repairs.
- Assist the maintenance division in sow removal as needed.
- Clear snow from driveways parking lots and sidewalks.
- Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of the electrical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods tools parts and equipment used in the electrical trades.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety precautions of the work.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to the work.
- Ability to detect by inspection broken or worn parts.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematic drawings.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and use measuring devices.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely.
- Ability to maintain routine records.
- Ability to perform as a lead worker.
- Ability to exercise the physical strength and agility necessary to perform job tasks with a minimum of 50lbs. lifting and carrying capacity and occasional 75 ls. Lifting capacity.
- Follows OSHA and safety procedures which may include department protocols appropriate attire and observing weight limits as it relates to utilizing portable extension ladder and step ladders.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers supervisors and school personnel.
- Work at heights up to 40 feet utilizing ladders elevated platforms and motorized lift equipment such as a bucket truck.
- Position requires the ability to work occasional scheduled overtime and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to after-hours emergencies which may include weekends and holidays.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum: High School Diploma/GED and three years work experience in the electrical or mechanical trade or equivalent education and trade work experience.
- Desirable: Technical Trade Diploma (Industrial Maintenance Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) Applicable Technical Trade Diploma and two years trade work experience or possess a North Carolina Electrical License.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid North Carolina drivers license.
- Ability to complete pre-employment screening.
Pay Grade LD - $3322.74 Monthly - Full-Time 12 Month Position
