This is a 10-month position (paid over 12 months) with full state benefits working 40 hours per week Sunday through Thursday during the overnight hours.
The beginning date for this position is July 2026.
Job Duties
Provide for the comprehensive care and management of sensory-impaired children and provide a nurturing and learning residential environment.
Assist in the provision of essential services for children with deafness blindness or sensory-impaired multiple disabilities by providing quality day and residential instructional programs to children referred by local school divisions and by serving as a resource for children with similar disabilities educated throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to interact with individuals in a patient positive and sensitive manner in order to provide for their direct care and development.
Ability to carry out instructional personal care and support tasks and to plan and implement activity programs for individuals with sensory impairment intellectual disabilities or severe disabilities.
Skill in behavior management or ability to complete behavior management training.
Ability to work independently and follow school policies and procedures.
Proficiency level of Intermediate in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
Physical requirements:
Ability to interact on a physical level with individuals and perform repetitive motion to include standing sitting reaching lifting walking bending and climbing.
Ability to monitor individuals during transportation and drive state vehicles in order to transport students to and from the school campus as needed.
Current CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained in accordance with school policies.
Additional Considerations
Ability to work with students with behavioral difficulties and acute medical needs is preferred.
Sufficient life and work experience to demonstrate an ability to maintain a stable environment and to provide guidance to children in the age range for which the employee will be responsible is preferred.
Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Human Service Assistant is preferred.
Valid Virginia Drivers license with driving record that reflects sense of responsibility for highway and passenger safety preferred.
