PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The hiring rate for this role is $23.00/hour.
This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee) where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leavein accordance withthe Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

Position overview.
Swim Instructors perform a variety of routine tasks related to aquatic safety and provide instruction to patrons in swimming and aquatic safety.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instructs patrons at various levels of swimming techniques and aquatic safety
- Performs routine tasks to maintain safety in swim classes
- Enforces pool rules
- Maintains records relating to swim classes
- Provides information to patrons and parents
- Attends in-service training sessions pertaining to the swim lesson program
- Completes lesson block plans each session to cater to each class
- Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge skills and abilities may be considered.

- Experience with swim instruction
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of pool safety and emergency action plans.
- Knowledge of swim lesson program structure and course material.
- Basic knowledge of swim techniques and progressions
Skills:
- Skills in swim instruction techniques
- Skilled in customer relations
Abilities:
- Ability to maintain a safe environment at work site.
- Able to perform and demonstrate skills that are being taught in classes.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds
- Regular walking and standing
- Regular climbing bending kneeling and crouching
- Hand/foot/eye coordination to perform and demonstrate appropriate fitness skills
- Vision to read instructions and respond to emergencies
- Hearing and speech communication for communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:
- Works both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust noise chemicals water and other conditions found in an aquatic environment.
Equipment Used:
- Operates equipment related to swim lesson operations.
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16 April 10 July 2 and December 24.
