Job Duties

  • Coordinates clinical and business paperwork prior to surgery so patients are clinically and financially prepared for surgery.
  • Understand the process for precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies for surgery and ancillary testing. Understand basic principles of insurance coverage. Obtain insurance information and demographic information as needed.
  • Confirm pre-operative instructions with patients as directed by the physician assistant or physician.
  • Work with Operating Room staff to ensure appropriate equipment is available.
  • Assists with coordination of operative and post-operative schedules for patients and providers.
  • Works with providers to schedule testing/blood work. Forwards test results to appropriate providers in a timely manner. Faxes to appropriate providers.
  • Works with Access Staff to ensure any ancillary testing needing authorization is obtained.
  • Work with surgical physicians to ensure any patient whom no shows or cancels an appointment is followed up on.
  • Works collaboratively with Peri-Op department.
  • Provides support to the front desk area when needed.
  • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patients physician offices insurance companies.
  • Inform other staff of pertinent information.
  • Responds professionally and pleasantly to telephone messages. Obtains adequate/accurate information and delegates information appropriately.
  • Maintains communication with physicians mid-level providers patients hospitals insurance companies.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality complies with HIPPA guidelines as established by the practice.
  • Works with the Practice Manager to ensure safe and professional patient care


Other Duties
Attends Monthly staff meetings
Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.

Position Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience working in a physician group practice.; prior Registration and authorization knowledge required.
  • Must have significant knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word Excel practice management software PowerPoint as well as web and web-based software.
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously required.
  • Equivalent education experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
  • Must have experience with processing authorizations in physician practice.
  • Working knowledge of managed care basics and experience working with a managed care and Medicare population.
  • Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications.
  • Knowledge of practice management and word processing software.
  • Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Neat professional appearance.

Education
Bachelors degree in healthcare business or a related field preferred.

High School Required


Job Setting/Physical Demands

  • Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involve standing and walking.
  • Employees will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
  • Employees will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours.
  • Employees will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.
  • Employees will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases toxic substances ionizing radiation medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment

Salary commensurate with experience within posted range:

$47000-$63000 Per Year
