School Nurse

Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)ï½ 1:1 Support for Medically Fragile Student (Special Education)

Position Summary

The RN or LPN provides direct 1:1 medical and self-care support to a medically fragile high school student receiving special education services. The nurse ensures the students health safety and access to their IEP. When the student is absent due to illness or hospitalization the RN or LPN serves as a substitute nurse within the district when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily nursing care per the students Health Plan and physician orders.
• Assist with self-care needs (mobility feeding toileting hygiene medical equipment).
• Monitor health status and respond to medical needs or emergencies.
• Support academic participation under the direction of special education staff.
• Complete daily MA (Medical Assistance) billing documentation and submit required billing information.
• Document services and maintain communication with the school nurse special education team and family.
  

Qualifications

• Current RN or LPN license (Minnesota or applicable state).
• CPR/First Aid certification; specialized training preferred.
• Experience with medically fragile students or pediatric nursing preferred.
• Ability to follow IEPs Health Plans and emergency procedures.
• Strong communication collaboration and documentation skills.

• School-year position with required training.
• Supports student health safety educational access and district nursing services as needed.
• Salary range: $29.66-$36.74 based on education experience and licensure. Benefits may include health and dental insurance long-term disability coverage and life insurance.
