Job Summary
The Mental Health Integration (MHI) psychologist position is administratively aligned with the Psychology Service within the Mental Health Service Line of VA Connecticut Healthcare System and is assigned as a co-located collaborative and integrated mental health care provider in Neurology. This position includes substantial clinical duties including focused assessment brief evidence-informed interventions education and consultation services to Veterans and education and consultation for Neurology providers and allied team members. The MHI psychologist works collaboratively within Neurology to promote prevention assessment early identification and treatment of mild to moderate mental health and health behavior concerns. Visits are generally brief (30 minutes or less) limited in number (6-8 sessions or less) and structured so that the Veteran and specialty medical team views meeting with the MHI psychologist as part of the Neurology service. The MHI psychologist is fully integrated into the Neurology clinic team engaging in a variety of team-based activities such as huddles team meetings case review consultation education and conjoint and/or shared appointments. The MHI psychologist is regularly available for same day access with most referrals connected to care via warm handoff within Neurology. The MHI psychologist is expected to support the training of doctoral psychology internship trainees and postdoctoral advanced fellows in clinical health psychology as part of the accredited training programs at VA Connecticut Healthcare System.
The incumbent is expected to have a record of scholarship that aligns with this position. Particularly interest and record of accomplishment in pain management and comorbidities is preferred as it affords the most opportunities for collaborative research within this predominantly clinical position.
