Description
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Hematopathology faculty member at a rank of Assistant Associate or full Professor. Board certification or eligibility in Hematopathology is required. Additional board certification or eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology is preferred but not required.
The successful candidate will join a collegial team of nine hematopathologists in the Section of Hematopathology within the Division of Clinical Pathology. Based at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta GA the Hematopathology faculty currently handle approximately 5000 in-house bone marrow/lymph node biopsy specimens and 1500 outside/expert consultation cases annually. These activities support Emorys multi-hospital healthcare system the Winship Cancer Institute (Georgias only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center) as well as several community hospitals throughout metropolitan Atlanta and the surrounding region. The Hematopathology group additionally reviews approximately 10000 flow cytometry immunophenotyping profiles 3800 single-gene molecular diagnostic tests 4500 FISH panels and 4000 cytogenetics studies for hematologic neoplasms each year. They also participate in multidisciplinary leukemia/lymphoma conferences and are actively engaged in the training and education of fellows residents medical students hematopathology laboratory staff and students of allied health science programs. The successful candidate with additional molecular board certification or eligibility will share clinical service responsibilities with other molecular genetic pathology faculty who currently review approximately 1700 targeted NGS panels for hematologic neoplasms and solid tumors each year.
The successful candidate is expected to possess strong diagnostic expertise excellent interpersonal communication and teaching skills and a commitment to academic scholarship in hematopathology and if applicable in molecular genetic pathology. Eligibility for medical licensure in Georgia is required. The Department offers ample opportunities to pursue clinical translational and collaborative research. Compensation and academic appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
