Position Summary

The K12 Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality standards-aligned instruction in Spanish language and culture across elementary middle and/or high school grade levels. This role focuses on developing students proficiency in speaking listening reading and writing in Spanish while fostering cultural awareness and global competence. The teacher supports students at varying developmental levels and promotes biliteracy through engaging inclusive and differentiated instruction.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Deliver engaging standards-aligned Spanish instruction appropriate for K12 learners.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental and academic needs of diverse learners across grade levels.

  • Develop students proficiency in all language domains: speaking listening reading and writing.

  • Integrate cultural content to promote global awareness and appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures.

  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including modeling guided practice and independent application.

  • Incorporate technology and digital tools to enhance language acquisition and engagement.

Assessment & Data Use

  • Design and implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.

  • Use student data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies.

  • Provide timely meaningful and actionable feedback to students and families.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance grades and progress in district systems (e.g. Infinite Campus).

Classroom Environment & Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a safe inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment.

  • Foster positive relationships with students to support engagement and motivation.

  • Implement classroom management strategies appropriate for K12 learners.

  • Support language development for students at varying proficiency levels including heritage speakers and beginners.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams specialists and instructional staff to support student success.

  • Communicate effectively with students families and staff regarding student progress and needs.

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences school events and family engagement opportunities.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in faculty meetings professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.

  • Support school-wide initiatives including assessments and language proficiency programs (e.g. WIDA ACTFL-aligned practices).

  • Maintain instructional materials classroom resources and inventory.

  • Adhere to district policies procedures and professional expectations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Education Spanish or a related field

  • Missouri State Teaching Certification (appropriate K12 or content-specific certification)

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish (speaking reading writing and listening)

  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills across age groups

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive teaching

  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of teaching experience in K12 settings

  • Experience teaching multiple grade bands (elementary middle or high school)

  • Experience working in urban or diverse school settings

  • Familiarity with ACTFL standards and proficiency-based instruction

  • Experience with data-driven instruction and assessment practices

  • Familiarity with WIDA frameworks or multilingual learner supports

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand walk and actively engage with students throughout the school day

  • Ability to lift and move instructional materials as needed

  • Work is performed in a classroom and school environment with frequent interaction with students and staff

Terms of Employment

  • Salary and work year as established by the district salary schedule and board policy

  • Evaluation conducted in accordance with district and state guidelines
