BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position (IF&W Sr. Resource Biologist - Wildlife) is located within the Wildlife Divisions Wildlife Diversity Section in Augusta Maine. This position will serve as the Departments species specialist on coastal and marine birds and will also address the Departments involvement with proposed development in the Gulf of Maine. The position will focus on the conservation and management of birds and bats that utilize offshore habitats by investigating spatial and temporal patterns of use and assessing exposure and risk to inform environmentally responsible offshore wind energy development. Tasks include field studies and assessments for offshore birds and bats research stakeholder engagement and coordination administering contracts serving on Science and Technical Committees advising the Environmental Review team on offshore energy issues supporting related policy discussions providing technical assistance to Department staff other state and federal agencies non-governmental organizations and academia writing technical reports and grant proposals providing public outreach presentations and representing the Department at state regional and national meetings. This job will require a deviation from the standard work week during certain wildlife survey periods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Biology Fisheries or Wildlife Management or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to candidates with a) scientific and field knowledge of Maines marine birds b) a strong record of professional written communication skills and c) a graduate degree in Conservation Biology Wildlife Ecology or related discipline.

REQUIRED SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS: The questions below MUST be answered and submitted as part of your Cover Letter. Please keep responses to each question below to a 500-word maximum.

1. Summarize your training and experience in bat and marine bird field studies and assessments.

2. Summarize your experience in writing: a) technical reports b) peer-reviewed manuscripts c) grant proposals and d) species management plans.

3. Describe your experience in the field of wildlife science as it relates to the following:

a) Environmental Assessments of proposed project impacts on wildlife and habitat under state or federal regulatory permitting processes.

b) Coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders that highlights your organizational communication problem solving and consensus building skills.
