POSITION SUMMARY
To providementorship to multiple young persons living independently. The YCP is expected to provide ongoingculturally sensitive care while adhering to organizational policies andprocedures. A major focus of the workwith young people is to be a positive role-model at all times and to assist theyoung person in a manner that encourages them to reach their agreed upon goals.
POSITIONSCOPE/IMPACT OF ERROR
Duties arevaried following established service plan procedures and policies with somejudgement required to determine the most appropriate of a limited number ofalternatives. Non-routine or unusualsituations are referred to the could result in inadequate services that could have a negativeimpact on The Link to employeescustomers youth and communities. Misconduct could result in major loss of timeor resources could cause embarrassment within the organization and havea negative impact on the organization to customerscommunities and/or its public image.
Position Duties andResponsibilities:
Participates in on-going professional development to increase knowledge in thefield and increase skill level to continue meeting developing employment needs
Participate in meetings as required and promote positive teamwork and exhibit ahigh degree of positive role modelling for young people
Supports the program to reflect The Link treatment philosophy organizationaland Human Resource policies and program protocols; including representing theprogram and the organization in a professional manner
Demonstrate a good understanding of the Child and Family Services system inManitoba particularly in the context of Indigenous communities and the impactsof inter-generational and historical trauma
Knowledge awareness and respect of Indigenous cultures languages traditionsand practices
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; Ability to adapt to changingcircumstances or conditions with flexibility and compassion
Ability to reflect or seek guidance to ensure support given is representativeof the organizations mission and values
Transport youth to and from appointments(medical & other) to pay bills to and from the grocery store.
Provide direction support and participationin daily chores.
Helping young people develop andimplement household routines
Record keeping and report writing asrequired including monthly reports
Ensuring that all receipts for itemspurchased with company funds are forwarded to the program supervisor
Provide first aid interventions as required
Works as part of a team to ensureconsistency in the youths experiences with The Link
Spend one-on-one time with the youth
Identify and assist with life skillsdevelopment
Active involvement with the youth in familyand community
Encourage and participate in culturalactivities
Assist in developing and implementing plansfor special occasions such as birthdays holidays or discharge.
Helping youth with meal planning groceryshopping and cooking
Adhere to and encourage safe food handlingcooking and clean up
Teach the youth budgeting and shoppingtechniques
Assist with the maintenance and cleanlinessof the office space and the vehicles
Report damage or concerns with the buildingand vehicles to the program supervisor
Assist with all procedures and routinesrelated to health and safety of staff and youth
QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Essential:
Completion of high school orequivalent program and a minimum of 2 years experience in theyouth care field
Demonstrated understanding andappreciation for issues and concerns of Indigenous peoples within a childwelfare environment
Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365and the ability to operate in a networked environment; which may includewriting incident reports develop and edit documents and correspond with emails
Ability to handle sensitivesituations and confidential information in a multi-disciplinary teamenvironment.
Must have knowledge experience andunderstanding of Indigenous culture and traditions
Must provide services through anIndigenous lens that is holistic and focuses on the strengths and experiencesof Indigenous children youth families and communities
Knowledge of history and impact ofintergenerational barriers and oppression faced by Indigenous people
Knowledge of systems for childrenin care school family functioning and child welfare preferred
Valid Class 5 drivers license
Willingness to obtain or completetraining as per The Link Policy and/or organizational required training
Satisfactory Criminal Record Checkwith Vulnerable Sector Search a clear Child Abuse Registry check withacceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check alldone within the last 3 (three) months
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Working in a variety of environments; officeshomes and out in community
The ability to handlechallenging situations with medium to high risk individuals in some workenvironments.
Satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Check Prior ContactCheck and Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Valid Manitoba Drivers License and satisfactory driving record.
Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
