Job Summary

EMBL Grenoble shares the European Photon and Neutron Science (EPN) Campus with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) and the French national Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS) whose complementary and integrated facilities provide a very rich environment for structural biologists.
EMBL is seeking to recruit a Research Technician in the Head of Units Research Group at EMBL Grenoble Prof. Kristina Djinovic Carugo. The Djinovic group is interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying the architecture and assembly of muscle sarcomeres particular Z-discs and microbial metalloenzymes involved in complete ammonium oxidation and protection from chemical damage. We use integrative structural biology methods including X-ray crystallography small-angle X-ray scattering electron microscopy and complementary biophysical and biochemical approaches on proteins and reconstituted complexes.
Your role:
You will provide specific technical support to research projects of Djinovic Group and assist the lab in a variety of biochemical biophysical and structural studies including gene cloning protein expression purification and characterization of purified protein by various biochemical and biophysical techniques. You are also expected to help with the management of the lab together with Lab Manager of the research group.
Other main tasks include:
- General laboratory work: maintaining chemical stocks keeping track of and managing laboratory supplies and ordering.
- To be responsible for equipment maintenance and repair including communications with company representatives.
- To contribute to the training of students and fellows on laboratory practice and the equipment and techniques used.
- To actively participate in ongoing research projects in the Djinovic group
You have
- A degree in a relevant field (biology or related disciplines).
- Working experience in molecular biology molecular biophysics and biochemistry.
- Project management experience excellent communication skills and the ability to supervise and collaborate with other research teams.
- Good knowledge of desktop software applications.
- In a multi-lingual environment excellent command of English is mandatory.
You might also have:
- Previous experience in the use of biophysical instrumentation and sample preparation for structural studies or any structural biology technique will be an advantage.
- Fluency in French and other European languages would be an advantage.
Contract length: 6 months
Salary: Grade 4 or 5 (minumum basic starting salary 3.33543 /month (after tax and before 12.99% deduction to EMBL social security system) plus other social benefits.
