Position Summary

The Education and Career Pathways Coordinator supports youth and adults in achieving academic success and preparing for post-secondary education and diverse career pathways. This role focuses on engaging students through individualized coaching educational advocacy and life skills development. The Coordinator provides guidance across both traditional and alternative education pathways including credit retrieval re-engagement programs GED/HiSET options and non-traditional learning environments helping each student identify and pursue the path that best fits their goals and circumstances.

The Coordinator builds strong trust-based relationships with tribal members and collaborates with schools families and community partners to promote long-term success. Working in collaboration with the Community & Family Services Director this position blends mentorship with coordination by supporting students in academic and career planning navigating financial aid and training opportunities and setting and achieving personal goalswhile honoring the cultural values and strengths of the Stillaguamish community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Mentorship & Student Support

Build consistent trust-based relationships with students through ongoing mentorship and encouragement

Serve as a positive role model promoting confidence resilience and self-advocacy

Support students in identifying and pursuing individualized education and career goals

Provide guidance tailored to each students strengths needs learning style and cultural identity

Assist students in developing essential life skills including decision-making time management and problem-solving

Education & Career Pathways Navigation

Guide students in exploring and accessing a range of high school and postsecondary options including:

o Alternative and online education K-12 programs

o College and university programs

o Trade schools and vocational training

o Apprenticeships and certification programs

o Direct workforce and career entry opportunities

Assist with applications for college training programs scholarships and financial aid

Help students understand and manage the financial responsibilities associated with their chosen pathway

Support development of academic and career plans aligned with long-term goals

Educational Advocacy & Accessibility Support

Advocate for students with learning disabilities and diverse learning needs including those with IEPs and 504 plans

Help students and families understand their educational rights and available accommodations in high school and post-secondary settings

Support students in transitioning accommodations from K12 systems to college vocational programs or workplace environments

Collaborate with school staff disability services offices and program coordinators to ensure appropriate supports are in place

Coach students in self-advocacy skills including how to request accommodations communicate needs and navigate support systems

Promote inclusive accessible educational and career opportunities for all students

Skill Development & Readiness

Teach and reinforce study skills note-taking and test preparation strategies

Support career readiness skills including resume building interview preparation and workplace expectations

Provide individualized or small group support to improve confidence and performance

Encourage persistence and problem-solving when students encounter academic or personal barriers

Advocacy & Relationship Building

Establish and maintain strong relationships with schools colleges training programs disability services and employers

Advocate for student access to equitable educational and career opportunities

Connect students with resources such as internships job shadowing campus visits and workforce programs

Program Coordination & Support

Assist with program operations including documentation reporting and event coordination

Support youth programming such as graduation celebrations campus tours internships and career exploration events

Maintain accurate and confidential student records

Assist with the development of a student resource website

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as assigned

Coordinate and host events such as the Higher Education Graduation Event participate in community resources events

Coordinate and transport students to college campus tours

Assist with the Summer Youth Internship program

Assist students with obtaining and maintaining vital documents

Learn needs of individual students conduct independent living assessments and support students with identifying and strengthening areas of need

  • May be required to transport students to and from school/educational meetings to the Tribal Community Center
  • Identify and perform outreach to at-risk-youth
  • May support other roles within the Community & Family Services Department

May be required to assist with educational youth programs and events

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong interpersonal communication skills and excellent written communication skills required.

Ability to establish trust and rapport with youth fostering engagement and participation across academic and community-based environments.

Must be able to build the confidence of students and inspire them to make academic decisions that fit best with their lifestyles and abilities.

Comfortable in a constantly changing environment flexible and adaptable.

Ability to work with all age levels learning abilities and styles.

Excellent computer skills and have Word Excel PowerPoint and Access knowledge and know how to access and retrieve information from the internet.

Must be able to explain complicated information in lay person terms.

Ability to handle highly confidential information.

Knowledge of the Stillaguamish Community and surrounding tribal communities.

Ability to interact in a positive demeanor and apply excellent listening skills with all students clients and community members.

Excellent organizational skills.

Work Environment

Position Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Education Human Services Social Work or Behavioral Sciences preferred however relevant work experience may substitute.

At least 1-3 years of experience in college readiness standards scholarship programs Higher Education and or educational advocacy.

Experience working in a Tribal Culture setting is preferred.

Experience working with youth

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekend assignments.

Must have strong work history and attendance.

Must meet coverage criteria according to the Tribes vehicle liability insurance.

Must be able to pass thorough background checks and drug screen and possess a valid Washington drivers license.

Must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

Must obtain NARCAN training.

Must obtain Blood Borne Pathogen Training.
