Under the direction of the Director and Chief of Pathology is responsible forproviding technical oversight of the assigned laboratory section (s) (Chemistry Hematology & Coagulation Urinalysis Diagnostic Immunology Molecular Pathology and/or Microbiology). Accurately consistently and efficiently perform pre-analytical analytical and post-analytical activities required for laboratory testing for pediatric/adolescent adult and geriatric patients in compliance with laboratory hospital state federal and regulatory agency policies and procedures. Ensures the quality of the work while maintaining a pleasant and efficient work atmosphere.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm Rotating Weekends and Holidays (as necessary)
Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Develops trains and monitors testing procedures.
- Develops maintains and monitors the quality control and quality assurance programs on an on going basis.
- Maintains a current written procedure manual reviews and revises as needed with a minimum of once a year.
- Demonstrates proficiency in performing all computer related activities required of supervisory personnel daily.
- Provide initial orientation to staff assigned to section. Participate in the interview selection evaluation and discipline of assigned personnel. Schedule personnel appropriately to maintain services to the hospital and adhere to operating budget.
- Evaluate the competency of testing personnel: Document competency training and continuing education activities.
- Implements and monitors a workload recording program on an on going basis.
- Inventories and orders supplies as needed.
- Always adheres to safety and infection control procedures.
- Keeps current with new methods and instrumentation evaluates and makes recommendations for future purchases or leases when required.
- Reviews all test results performed in the section daily.
- Responsible for ensuring section is in compliance with CAP TJC CLIA and AABB regulations.
- Performs routine work daily including phlebotomy.
- Maintains an efficient cost effective and productive laboratory section.
- Prepares assignments to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel as needed including registration area.
- Ensures that staff follows all safety regulations.
- Evaluates job performance of personnel on a periodic basis.
- Orient and trains new employees assigned to the section when appropriate.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
- Develops maintains and monitors the instrument maintenance programs.
- Assists the technologist in trouble-shooting procedure reagents and equipment as needed.
- Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings monthly.
- Perform all duties of a Medical Technologist as per the job description for the position
- Communicates with physicians and other medical staff as needed to provide information regarding patient data interpretation and appropriateness of testing. Consults with Pathologist and Administrative Director / Manager as needed.
- Demonstrates leadership and maintains an attitude of professionalism and cooperativeness.
- Consistently displays a commitment towards meeting the objective of the department while maintaining a pleasant and efficient work atmosphere.
- Develops and maintains a good rapport with the entire staff.
- Actively participates and encourage staff to participate in Continuing Education
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree inMedical Technology or equivalent education training and experience required. Masters degree preferred.
- 3-5 yearsrelated work experience required.
- 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory with at least 3 in the specific specialty area.
- Experience with computer systems required including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree and management experience.

Social/Environmental Requirements:
1. Work requires periods of close attention to work with out interruption. Concentrated effort of up to 4 hours without break may be required.
2. Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

Pay Range:
$48.08 - $60.10The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors that may include seniority education training relevant experience relevant certifications geographyof work location job responsibilities or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials call pay premium pay overtime pay and other additional pay practices as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
