Game Experience Interpreter
Job Summary
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in performance drama theatre or improvisational work
- Previous experience in a customer service environment
Assets:
- Demonstrated ability in script memorization and character development
- Fluency in verbal English
- Experience working in an escape room or interactive theatre environment
- Knowledge of historical interpretation or working in a heritage park setting
- Familiarity with gamified customer interactions
Skills required for success:
- Ability to engage diverse audiences confidently
- Building rapport quickly with guests and colleagues
- Reacting calmly to unexpected changes in game flow or guest behavior
- Working effectively with a crew to manage complex game logistics
- Comfortability with receiving and integrating creative coaching notes from supervisors

Conditions of Employment:
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- This is a safety-sensitive position
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme temperatures or precipitation
- Requirement to wear assigned costumes including makeup and specific historical attire
- Applicants may be tested
Work Environment:
- Note: Due to the nature of this work this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
- Ability to work shift work including nights and potentially split shifts or on-call
- Frequent standing and walking (67100% of the time). Occasional lifting of game pieces or equipment up to 20lbs
- Primarily an outdoor environment at Fort Edmonton Park with some indoor game spaces
- Requires active focused listening visual acuity and spatial perception while navigating historic streets
- Potential contact with common outdoor allergens like hay straw pollen or bees
- This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs expectations and emotional states

As a Game Experience Interpreter you will be the heart of an outdoor adventure escape game bringing stories to life through immersive role-play. This isnt just a job; its a chance to use your theatrical talents to guide guests through a unique entertainment experience. You will join a creative team dedicated to providing exceptional service while maintaining the magic of the games narrative. What will you do
- Portray and maintain assigned character roles throughout the game including using memorized lines and understanding the product narrative
- Interact with guests in character to provide narrative immersion offering hints and help to enhance their experience
- Perform back-of-house game operations such as puzzle setup resetting game areas and securing the site at the end of the night
- Prepare for performances by attending rehearsals training days and staff orientations
- Think critically and solve on-the-spot problems regarding guest experience game flow and safety
- Collaborate with the Game Lead and other park teams including the Public Interpretation and Operations groups to ensure seamless product delivery
- Other related duties as required
