About this Position
Instruct and assist year-four professional veterinary students. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory in clinical areas. Provide high quality veterinary technical assistance in the Field Services department of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
Required Qualifications
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital or large multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital or large multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Senior Veterinary Technician - Eight years experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital or large multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
Veterinary Technician Specialist I - Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Veterinary Technician Specialist II - Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
- Skills Proficiencies and/or Knowledge: Experience in restraint of small and large animals administering injections and placement of IV (peripheral central and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including but not limited to: personal computer telephone copy machine laser video endoscope diagnostic lab equipment camera/video camera electrodiagnostic equipment etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 80 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Veterinary Technology
Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition. Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Certifications Registrations and/or Licenses:
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).
