Clinical RN (Registered Nurse)

The CHH2 Adult Ambulatory Oncology Infusion Clinic at OHSU primarily serves patients within Hematology Oncology Medical Oncology and Classical Hematology. We collaborate with KCI Ambulatory Oncology Clinics Dietitians Pharmacy Social Work Case Management and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional oncology care for our patients and community.

Our teams support programs that include but are not limited to the Hepatic Arterial Infusion Pump program Phase I Clinical Trials and the OHSU Cellular therapy programs.

Patient Populations:

• Hematologic Malignancies: Leukemia Lymphoma Myeloma Allogeneic/ Autologous Transplant CAR-T TIL DLI etc.
• Medical Oncology: Sarcoma Head and Neck Breast Lung GI/GU Prostate etc.
• Classical Hematology: Bleeding disorders clotting disorders anemias white blood cell disorders platelet disorders.
• Other: Our infusion unit serves a variety of populations requiring interventional treatments only available at the CHH2 Ambulatory Oncology Outpatient Infusion Unit.

Department Specific Working Conditions:

• Variable work schedule including weekends and holidays.
• Working conditions that include multi-tasking multiple interruptions and environmental exposures such as noise human tissues/fluids hazardous medications or radiation.
• Physical requirements necessary to perform nursing duties such as:

1. Ability to lift bend stoop reach carry push pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs. independently. Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.
2. Must be able to use all senses: seeing hearing touching smelling and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids.
3. Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients families and other personnel.
4. Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers copiers multi-line phones and fax.

• Equipment: Must be able to use medical and non-medical unit equipment required to perform essential functions of this position.

Must have 2-years of Oncology experience within the last 5 years

• BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
• ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
• Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
• Current unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
• BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

The RN must meet one oncology provider qualification:

1. ONS Chemotherapy/ Biotherapy provider card upon hire.

2. Oregon Health and Science University NCI Collaborative Systemic Cancer Therapies for the Oncology Nurse course.

3. Oregon Health and Science University NCI Collaborative 2-year renewal course.

The RN must hold one Professional certification or meet Commission on Cancer education requirements:

1. Current cancer-specific certification in the nurses specialty (OCN BMTCN etc.) by an accredited certification program.

2. Completion of 36 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours each accreditation cycle per Commission on Cancer requirements.

Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse

• External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
• Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
