Anticipated Public Safety CTE Instructor
Description:
The Public Safety Instructor prepares students with the knowledge skills andprofessional practices necessary for careers in law enforcement fire servicesemergency medical services and related public safety fields. The instructor isresponsible for delivering the Chapter 74 Public Safety frameworks and creating real-world scenario-based learning experiences that reflect industry standards legalfoundations and emergency response program emphasizes constitutional law emergency response public safetysystems and ethical decision-making to prepare students for postsecondary education
training academies and careers in public safety.
Location: Everett High School
Required Education/Experience:
- Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as aVocational Technical Public Safety Teacher or licensed as a Criminal Justiceteacher (or eligible to obtain licensure)
- Associates degree or higher related to legal studies criminal justice publicsafety emergency services fire science or a related field
- A minimum of 4 years of full-time employment experience directly related topublic safety (e.g. legal law enforcement fire service EMS dispatchcorrections military or related field)
- Ability to document employment experience in accordance with DESE licensurerequirements (including employer verification letters or self-employmentdocumentation as applicable)
- Passing score on required licensure assessments including:
- Relevant Vocational Technical written and performance tests
- Communication & Literacy Skills Test (MTEL) or Vocational TechnicalLiteracy Skills Test (VTLST)
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Bachelors degree or higher in legal studies criminal justice public safety or arelated field
- SEI Endorsement
- Prior experience in law enforcement fire service EMS emergency managementor dispatch
- Relevant certifications (e.g. CPR/First Aid BLS Firefighter I/II EMT IncidentCommand System/NIMS)
- Experience working with youth or in an educational setting
- 3 or more years of high school teaching experience in CTE
- Experience working in an urban public school setting
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
Duties:
- Deliver curriculum aligned to MA DESE Public Safety frameworks includingcriminal justice emergency response law enforcement procedures and fireservices
- Teach foundational concepts such as constitutional law public safety systemsinvestigative procedures and emergency response protocols
- Facilitate hands-on scenario-based learning (e.g. mock trials emergencysimulations incident response activities)
- Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials (e.g. CPR/First Aid OSHABLS)
- Integrate ethics community engagement and cultural competency intoinstruction
- Support development of communication skills for emergency and public-facingsituations
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students in active appliedlearning
- Develop lesson plans that incorporate real-world applications simulations andproject-based learning
- Assess and document student progress and provide timely feedback
- Maintain classroom equipment and ensure safe practices aligned to public safetystandards
- Collaborate with administration to develop and refine curriculum scope &sequence and program growth
- Build partnerships with local police fire departments EMS agencies and publicsafety organizations
- Support work-based learning opportunities field experiences and careerexploration
- Create a classroom environment that emphasizes professionalismaccountability and teamwork
- Maintain accurate student records in alignment with district and staterequirements
- Communicate effectively with students families and colleagues
- Participate in staff meetings professional development and programimprovement efforts
- Develop partnerships with industry professionals and serve as liaison to theProgram Advisory Committee and attend two meetings per year
- Ensure equitable access and support for all students
- Collaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support studentssocial emotional and mental health needs.
- Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote asense of belonging inclusion self-confidence team-building and informeddecision-making.
- Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to reviewIEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.
- Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Standards into contentinstruction including listening speaking reading and writing to meet the needsof multilingual learners.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Director of Career & TechnicalEducation
Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. -SY 26-27 Pay Range - $65178-$125654.
